South Garden Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Kendall

I live very close to South Garden and I was hoping to have found an authentic chinese restaurant next door (which would be the dream!) but instead have had hit or miss experiences here. I came for dinner alone already knowing that I wanted duck, but was interested in looking at their dim sum menu. For dinner, they only have a small section of dim sum where everything costs $3.95 which is not a bad price for what was on it. I wanted to order and eat as I go which I often do at other restaurants but the server there was pretty insistent that I order everything at once and kept taking the menu away when I wasn't done looking at.

I ordered the chicken rice soup as a quick appetizer and as a way to ease my hunger. I was surprised by how tasty it was and they definitely don't skimp out on the chicken with huge pieces throughout. I thought to myself at the time that I would definitely come back for this the next time I catch a bad cold or am sick. I had ordered the soup, chicken feet, and the shrimp/scallop dumplings as appetizers from the dim sum menu but instead immediately got the half duck after my soup which bothered me a bit since I didn't receive the rest until I was almost done eating. The duck was definitely the star of the meal and a half is only $13.85 which I was very happy about. It was a huge platter-----the duck was cooked perfectly (not overdone) and the exterior was nice and crispy. YUM!

In general, I'd come back for the duck only and order it out or share it with someone. I also remember coming a time before this where they had a large dim sum menu at lunch so I would think about coming back for...

The greatest Chinese restaurant in Miami.... Maybe all of SFL. I've been going to this restaurant for a decade this year and it has never disappointed me.

The food is so good that everyone will always leave full. Basically every dish on the menu is great. This is REAL Chinese food, not those msg-filled grease boxes sold by many take out places.

Everyone who I have taken to this restaurant over the past decade has returned on their own multiple times.

The prices are fair and the portions are large. This restaurant is best enjoyed with large platters that are shared around on a lazy Susan in the center of the larger tables. Orange chicken, honey chicken, orange beef, sweet n sour Hong Kong pork, shrimp w/ walnut sauce, szechuan beef, wonton soup, bok Choi w/ garlic sauce, special fried rice, general tso chicken (mild) and steamed full fish are our favorites.

We have brought large parties of 20+ people before and they have accommodated us in the past.

Take out from here is also great and it's one of the few places where a $60 take out order can be a week of different meals. Making it an outstanding value.

Come to this restaurant, you won't be disappointed. Just don't come expecting fake American Chinese food. This is the REAL DEAL.

This place is not the best place to go. I’ve only ever had dim sum here and there are much better places to eat dim sum in Miami. My main reason for giving them a one star is I came today for a pick up order. I got there 10 minutes earlier so naturally I knew I had to wait for the food to be ready. I ended up waiting an extra 15 minutes for my food. Turns out they gave my food to someone else who ordered pretty much at the same time as me by phone. I could hear the guy in the front take the order and it was a large order that was more than $100 worth. That customer came 20 minutes after I did and rather checking the cart the lady brought up from the kitchen they gave the customer everything in the cart. The man in the front explained a few minutes after my order was accidentally given to the person that took the cart which was what I figured. They were going to make me wait an additional 15 minutes for my food. Since I had already paid I asked for the full refund instead. Word of advice don’t mess with a pregnant hungry lady.

On another note I think health inspectors should come here. I noticed a table in the back full of stringed beans laid out on the table out of the box. I’m pretty sure somewhere there will be a health violations. I’ve read other reviews of roaches in the food as well....
