After lunch in the area and reading the good reviews we headed to Wall's for dessert before leaving South Miami. For the last seven years it has been owned by Felipe Grabiel who managed to survive the pandemic by adding a takeout window to the outside. The ice cream shop has been a community staple for years and Gabriel used to bring his own kids here before he owned it.
Wall's has a nostalgic look with it's red and white striped building and checkerboard floor. There are a couple of tables inside and more out front and on a side deck. My first impressions of the inside were it good use a good cleaning. Tables were dirty and walls and floor needed a scrubbing. Wall's specializes in classic flavors like pistachio, vanilla, coffee, Oreo Heath bar, and strawberry are scooped out of a tub which can be turned into hakes, sundaes, malts and old fashioned sodas. Additionally there are seasonal and no sugar flavors. They also sell fudge although I didn't actually see any.
Wall's is famous for their Great Wall Challenge which requires you to finish 5.5 pounds, 36 scoops of ice cream, 3 dry toppings, 2 wet toppings, banana, brownie, whipped cream, and a cherry. If you can do it your picture is placed on the wall of fame.
I settled on a scoop of chocolate chip mint that could have used more chocolate. and which was scooped by an anemic teenager with his ear buds in who looked like he would rather be anywhere but here. He couldn't wait to sit back down and go on on his phone. The gentleman who helped my friend seemed more energetic. I can see how if you lived in the neighborhood this might be a good place to stop by with your kids. They had it decorated cutely for the holidays but all the inflatables were laying there lifeless. I personally prefer artisanal ice cream and everything at Wall's from the ice cream, to the service, to cleanliness made this a one and...
Read moreMeh.... Very average ice cream the shop purchases wholesale from an Ice Cream Manufacturer here in Miami. Nothing special here. It's not home made or made by them like "The Freeze" on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. Not bad... just not special or exceptional in any way.
On the other hand, The Fudge was really good and looks to be made in house.
Friendly, but slow and lethargic service. A fudge Sunday and Apple Cobbler took over 15 minutes to prepare after ordering.
Ordered a Coke and when I picked it up, it was very light. I took the cover off amd it was more than half empty.. :( When I brought it to my servers attention, he looked at it and literally took around 15-20 seconds to process that the cup was more than half empty. Just by the weight he should have know when he served it to me. Maybe they were just having a bad day...
Inside is tiny, with just a few two person tables, but outside has plenty of seating. They have a reasonably sized parking, which makes it easier to visit, but exercise caution - it's made out of gravel. My wife had a hard time walking on it with her heels... LoL So drop off any tall heel wearing women up front and avoid any...
Read moreThis place is so cute has so much potential I don’t understand why it is so FILTHY INSIDE!!! I’ve passed by it for years, so I decided to give it a try bc my kids love ice cream. It isn’t a little messy inside, it’s filthy. I can tell they literally never clean. Every surface is dirty. I was so turned off by the smell when I walked in. The cookie box looks filthy. The t-shirt on the wall has loads of dust on it. The floors are disgusting. Tables dirty. A review on here from 6 years ago states the same issue, which means they’ve never corrected it. The owner has to be incredibly careless and has no regard for his customers safety or health to run an establishment like this. I’m not returning until they do a DEEP CLEAN. It’s so sad the owner doesn’t care about his business, what could be an adorable old fashioned ice cream shop. They have all new technology to accept all forms of payment, but can’t invest in cleaning supplies. What a shame. Owner only cares about money, not his business...
