Great Place - Negative Reviews Are Unreasonable
This is one of those places where I wrestled between keeping it to myself and telling the whole world. In the end, the better angels of our nature prevailed. Nestled on Cobb Parkway, next to Old 41 Tacos Del Chavo is a rare find. Here the $1.99 Mexican Taco is the entry to the ground floor. Basic, no sour creme, no cheese, no lettuce and no tomato, just pure goodness at it's core. The food is great and but bring cash and wear shorts in the summertime. They don't have A/C, they don't accept Credit or Debit Cards - extras that would only distract from their main mission - making great food at great price.
I get two Mexican Tacos Al Pastor and Jamaica ( pronounced hi-Mai-ka) , the tacos come with cilantro and fresh onion and are garnished with a grilled jalapeno and a radish. I used to toss the jalapeno and the radish but if you remove the seeds and squeeze a bit of lime and salt on them you will discover that they are quite good. Salsas are also amazing. Try them all.
The people here are sweet, real sweet. They're efficient but at the same time will greet you with a authentic warmness that is as pleasant as the food. Read the menus overhead, they are pretty clear but some people may still miss the details. This isn't Taco Bell. This is a place that retains it's Mexican roots as evidenced by the steady stream of Latinos who drop in for a taste of home.
Parking is simple, some out back, some on the side. There are a few picnic tables on the side as well or enjoy the fans that push air around under the covered deck. It's not horrible, imagine a taco stand at a resort or on a cruise destination and you'll feel right at home.
Go here, this place will become one of your favorites on payday when you're flowing with cash and the one that carries you though when your pockets are kinda light. I love this place. ...
Read moreTacos de chavo was a really good experience, the food wasn’t perfect but I definitely plan on coming back. I ordered the red enchiladas and some horchata. To start, for the budget friendly, you get your moneys worth. It is a full plate of food and the 3 dollar price tag can seem hefty on a drink like the horchata, you get what feels like a half gallon of it which cements the value to me. I had the enchiladas which is where my only issues were, I had them red, half chicken half steak. The piece of steak on top is good flavor wise and works with the sauce but is a bit tough and heard to eat, it’s a rather thin piece and is a little overcooked. If the kitchen reads this, less time on a hotter grill would make it perfect. The steak inside the enchiladas was perfect however and worked well. The sauce was a bit bitter, but work really well with the avocado present and the corn tortillas used for the enchiladas. The highlight was definitely the staff, wonderful guys who make me feel extremely welcome and created a homey atmosphere that people want in any restaurant. Every waiter checked on me and sought a way to improve my experience. It was a small eating area so maybe that helps, but it was extremely pleasant none the less. If you’re looking for something different that another Taco Bell, chipotle, or chain restaurant, I’d love to recommend this as a notch...
Read moreTERRIBLE service and mediocre tacos, do not waste your money here.
Just went back today and I had the WORST customer service experience, the waitress was incredibly rude and disrespectful. I’ve been to el Chaco a good amount of times and was always received with positive attitude and given complimentary chips and salsa while we waited for the food. However, today we didn’t receive any and when I asked our waitress if we could get some she aggressively said ‘ we don’t do that here but you can get up and order some yourself (in Spanish)’ which left my friends and I in shock. I recommended my friend’s and family to try this place, some came last week and were also treated rudely but given the chips and salsa without hesitation. The waitress was also rude and did her best not to talk to use or ignore when we asked her anything. My family and I grew up in Mexico so we know what good tacos are and these were very okay tasting but very overpriced (especially for the size). We had come over a year ago and it was great, the service and food, but went back today and were extremely disappointed. The meat is NOT grilled, it is steamed and the taco size is about the size of my palm.
You’ve lost my family and friends...
