So, we were excited when this place originally opened. Tried them out after they'd been open for a month. Decided to give them a 2nd try yesterday after our first experience was not good. I like to give places a 2nd try before writing a review. First time there, spent $70 on their "Feast for 4", and everything was super overcooked. Shrimp were rubbery. The corn was so mushy and gross it was not edible. Everything was just over-cooked, but the seasoning was actually pretty tasty, as memories go.
We decided to finally give them another try, and the positives? Nice, big pour of the wine I ordered. My wife's Mojito was way too sweet, but we asked for a bunch of limes and that made it much nicer and traditional Mojito-ish. The rest?
My wife ordered the Pirate Shrimp, she said it was "OK". She said, "A little overcooked though..." I ordered the Lobster Quesadila. I opened mine up and it looked nothing like lobster. Anyone who's ordered lobster knows it is a firm, meaty texture. What was in mine had 2 different types of white meat, one was stringy but very soft. The other looked exactly like the imitation crab (frequently called "Krab") that is used at most super markets. It also was very floppy, soft, and 100,000% was NOT lobster. I took a bite, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't lobster.
I didn't think much of it, told our waitress that I think they made a mistake and that my lobster quesadilla didn't actually have lobster. I had this lady come over a few minutes later with my plate and explained she was the manager, and said it's lobster. I opened it up again and asked, "Are you sure? Look at this, this doesn't look anything like lobster, and I tasted it, and it doesn't taste like lobster." She replied, "I don't know what to tell you sir, this is made right, it's lobster." I just said, "OK, I just wanted to be sure."
I ate it, it wasn't bad, but it WAS NOT LOBSTER. Take a look at my picture and decide for yourself. Unfortunately, this was the last piece of quesadilla (my 7 year old ended up beating most of it), so it didn't capture the larger pieces that were not stringy. Regardless...
It had the same texture and tasted exactly like Winco's imitations Krab Salad, and the "Krab" (fake crab) they have in that dish. I am 100% sure of it, we eat at Bonefish Grill and Anthony's 4 times a month, we're seafood snobs. There is zero chance it was real lobster, and the fact that a place that is named "Crazy Crab" serves fake crab meat at ALL? Is just kind of unbelievable to me all around. Definitely will not be going back, 2 strikes and you're out, with my family. The other thing to keep in mind is their website menu prices are wrong. That quesadilla on their website menu says $12, when we got there it was $14. Would love to be able to support a local business, but our experiences just don't warrant it,...
Read moreCalled in a pick up order based on the menu on their website and ordered the following:
Fried oysters Butterflied shrimp platter Crazy crab pot for one Crab sandwich
It took them almost 6 rings to even pick up the phone even though part of their main gimmick is that you can order take out. When someone finally answered and I made my order, she had no idea what a crab sandwich was even though it was on their menu. They let me know the damage (ballpark $68 and some change). Let me know it'll be about 20 minutes.
On my drive over they call me back and let me know they no longer serve the crab sandwich, and offered the lobster or the chicken instead. Choose the lobster. Got there about 5 minutes earlier than their quoted time so I loitered outside before heading in to pay for and pick up my food.
Walk up to the front stand where there's no staff despite the "please wait to be seated" sign. Multiple staff see me as they're walking around. I make eye contact with several people. About 5 minutes goes by before someone comes up and talks to me. I let them know I'm here to pick up my order and give them my name. She goes in the back and comes out a few minutes later empty handed. Asks me what I ordered... Seriously?
I tell her I was the one that just called in an order about a half hour ago with the lobster sandwich. She walks away while I'm still talking to her and comes out another few minutes later and lets me know that someone will bring my order up shortly.
Another 5 minutes (mind you, this is 35 minutes now for a 20 minute order) and someone comes up with the check. Its now $74. Interesting, because the oysters were on special for $2 off and the original price I was quoted was $68, but whatever. I hand them my card and she disappears with it. Another 5 minutes later and she comes back with my food and the check. I sign, take my food and leave.
And that was just BEFORE I got the food.
So I get home and lay this exorbitant feast out for my family. Lo and behold... the fried oysters taste like they'd been sitting in a can for days, battered, and tossed in a fryer. Greasey and mushy, and disgusting. The shrimp was completely overcooked. You know that grainy texture it gets where its like chalk putty? Yum! Not.
And the $29 crazy crab pot? Four skinny crab legs, an over abundance of sausage, two clams, one mussel, and you guessed it! MORE overcooked shrimp. Fun stuff.
And that (apparently) $18 lobster sandwich? American Kraft singles cheese (not cheddar, as advertised) with a tiny bit of tasteless rubber passed off as lobster.
Was 100% not worth it and will never be going back.
Don't waste your...
Read moreI am highly disappointed with the experience we had here, the staff was extremely unprofessional, rude and unhelpful.. no one seemed to know what was actually in the food or take the allergen issue we have seriously. If we would have listened to what the staff was telling us was in the food my boyfriend would have been hospitalized. This was indeed the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant.
First off I very politely informed our waiter right off the bat that my boyfriend has a severe allergy to capsaicin(a component found in hot peppers like chili, jalapeño, etc.) We had some questions about the menu items, the waiter didn't know very much about what was in the food so he went to ask about some of the vague spices that were listed on the menu. When he returned he listed out what the menu already said the dish included and didn’t tell us what was in the “house spices” which we originally asked about...and with his lack of confidence we just decided to take another minute to look at the menu...we decided on the fried calamari, again I made sure this didn’t have any spices in it. He confirmed it did not have anything spicy then asked us if we want CAJUN fries(seriously?) to go with it. I was pretty stunned but we all say things accidentally so i continued to be polite and just brush it off.. When the calamari arrived I could smell the blackened seasoning(a seasoning including many hot spices)... before the waiter left I told him that it looked like blackened seasoning and we can't have that. He said no it is just butter and garlic but was saying it like he is just throwing it out there so we will stop bugging him about it...then a lady walking by noticed there was an issue with the food and asked if we had a problem, I asked her is this a spicy seasoning? I told her he is highly allergic and cannot have anything spicy the lady smirked like I was joking about it and told me the same as the boy that it is butter and garlic...so what do I do, I try it myself. It was spicy! My tongue burned for the next five minutes... There is no way that was butter and garlic I've had blackened seasoning many, many times and I know what it tastes and smells like. The rest of our time there was humiliating every single employee in the restaurant was staring at us and making it extremely obviously they were...
