Haven't been here in 15 years and was excited to finally get the prime rib I remembered. I figured since they are open 3 hours a day 4 days a week they would be stocked up. Guess what...wrong. in 2 hours they were sold out. Bummer. Ok well im sure the rest is just as good. Get the sirloin med rare. It came more on the rare side but I'm cool with that too. It was the toughest steak I've eaten in a very long time. As I was cutting through I felt as if I knew how lumberjacks felt. All my excitement drained. Few bites were soft enough to enjoy, probably 10 percent of a 20ish Oz sirloin. The potato was just as bad. Seemed to be a microwaved potato then wrapped in a foil disguise at delivery. Can't recall I've ever had a chewy baked potato but witnessed it tonight. The server was great though, very nice, fast and on top of her game. I debated saying something but figured it just would have ended up in someone somewhere getting upset and since I had no Intentions of returning again after that I figured I'd let bygons be bygons and chalk it up to a loss. I will have to agree with another reviewer about the leftovers (which I did take to force down since it was $30 and I'm fat). It was odd it left the table to be packed into a plastic bag, my fat, gristle and all that was on the plate...being nice I guess which is great, but was odd at the same time. After a few hours of getting home I thought I'd give the steak a few bites and it just wasn't good. I debated putting the leftovers in my tool cabinet for when I had to work on the car I could use the steak remnants as tire chalks to keep the car from rolling. I threw it away, now hoping I don't have to resuscitate any raccoons that dare enter the trash tonight. Bright side, my gf said the schnitzel was good the rest she didn't care for and surprisingly we haven't got the craps, so im...
Read moreMy wife and I traveled from North Canton to Henry Wahner's Restaurant in Kent to celebrate our 34th Wedding Anniversary on June 2nd, 2018. We were excited to go and reminiscence, as we hadn't been there in many years. We thought it would be nostalgic and something special. Boy, we couldn't of been more wrong! First, the decor hadn't been updated since the stone age. But, no big deal, the food was gonna be great! Right? Wrong! And, by the way, don't go by the website menu prices on the internet. They were stated much less than the actual in-restaurant menu. I guess they didn't feel it necessary to update the menu prices either. But, no big deal, the food was gonna be great! Right? Wrong! Although the prime rib I had (at the higher $29.75, one of their supposedly house specials, while supply lasts), was a large portion, it was half fat and gristle. I could barely manage to cut through it, so eating it was even more of a chore. When I mentioned to our waitress, and pointed to the plate of accumulated fat (in a second plate, no less!), she said its always like that?! Really? My wife had the sirloin tips with mushrooms and onions. Again, not a good choice. Although, the mushrooms and onions "were" tender. But, not the steak. The bill came, and we found out they don't accept credit cards, only cash or check. Good thing I had a check in my wallet! Wasn't expecting to pay $60+ in cash that night for a meal. So, we contributed it all to just a bad choice by us, and a very bad dining experience altogether. Needless to say, we won't be going back. Wow! It was...
Read moreOur waitress provided excellent service. The food was very good and the price is reflective of the quality and authentic recipes. They only accept cash and check. An ATM is available if you need it. The quality is consistent and their recipes are very good. I really enjoyed the Schnitzel and spatzels which had a wonderful brown gravy. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. The pasta salad portion was a bit small but tasty.
The men's bathroom toilet was not particularly clean and the soap dispenser was completely empty, yet the sign opposite the sink says "All employees must wash hands before returning to work". I asked for the soap to be replaced and after waiting 10-15 minutes, they sent in an employee to refill the dispenser. They only filled it part way which is surprising since soap should be standard. Also, the faucet was in poor condition. Given the state of the men's bathroom, I wonder about the state of the lady's bathroom, and the kitchen area for that matter.
The portions of food are pretty good size for the main meals themselves. Some of the sides are bigger and tastier than others. The food pictures speak for themselves. Overall, I would say the German food is the most important part of this restaurant. The cleanliness of the bathroom and building could be better in some aspects. The building is older and it feels like stepping back in time when compared to a modern day restaurant. I would come back again despite the lacking areas because the German food is high quality and hard to...
