I used to love this place and have been going since they opened years ago. Recently in the past couple months, the quality has gone downhill. I have gone twice in the past couple months and noticed the same things.
I got a chirashi bowl, and half the rice was soggy and red from one of the fish’s juices leaking onto the rice. The other portion of rice was dry. The rice isn’t consistent and I have been getting either really soggy rice or really dry rice for my sushi.
The sushi rolls like the Musashi roll or Dragon roll used to be bigger and thicker in width, but now they are cutting these rolls so THIN that the roll is falling apart when you pick it up. There is less fish in the rolls now, I got an eel roll where it was such a small amount of eel per roll that it was comical. Similar reduction of fish has happened in my previous orders in rolls as well.
You can see the differences in photos from years ago to more recent photos of food to see that the slices of sashimi are getting thinner, they are cutting down on sushi fish and the rolls are getting more smaller and very thinly cut.
These quality changes are disappointing. I have gone back recently hoping things would be better, unfortunately it is only going down hill. I will need to find another sushi place near me...
Read moreFirst time trying Musashi's and unfortunately was quite disappointed. Giving 3 stars because there was some good: portions, presentation, sides (soy, ginger, etc), rice quality, veggie roll, edamame. No problems there. But the fish... Eating sushi is about celebrating the qualities of fish, the freshness, the texture, the unique flavors of different fish. While the standard salmon and tuna pieces were okay, all others were atrocious. The ebi was half-withered and limp, the flesh was not plump. Albacore and yellowtail pieces were the worst of it, stiff and rubbery (yes the albacore is seared but it shouldn't have been that stiff), flesh was degraded and grainy, and the biggest red flag: fishy odor. Sounds crazy but good, fresh fish does NOT smell fishy! And the smell of these pieces immediately put us off the rest of our nigiri. These fish slabs must have been thawed at least several days prior. The yellowtail was also shockingly red, did not look like yellowtail, and left a reddish stain on the rice it sat on, so it was dyed fish. The cooked salmon in my husband's cheese roll was also mushy and sad, as if it were from a can. Providing fresh, quality fish is the core of a sushi restaurant, and sadly we will not eat here again knowing that will not...
Read moreI was super excited when I found out Musashi was going to open up a new location 10 min from where I live. I use to drive to the Factoria location since it was the closest. (When I use to live in San Diego and they opened up a location in La Jolla I was super excited and went there all the time) They always got my orders right. I alway sub the scallops and eel with seared salmon and they always got it on the spot. However, when I requested the same thing from this location, (peep photo) sub scallops and eel for seared salmon, got home excited to open my meal and all I see is seared salmon, and to my right the scallops and eel I asked to be substituted for. Don’t get me wrong, I love seared salmon but I was looking forward to the other fishes (albacore, tuna, salmon minus the eel and scallops ) 🤤 honestly a bit disappointed because it’s my first time going to this location but I’ll give em another try and go again and...
