Since the pandemic and after, this restaurant uses extensively of styrofoam even dine in dishes so I never support them.
Today I walked pass and saw customers dine in with actual reusable plates, bento boxes, and stainless utensils so I decided to try. I specifically ordered for a dine in and the lady who took my order also repeated that. I sat down and wait right by their water station (right in front of where the food coming out of the kitchen) sharing a long table for eight with another random customer on the other end. Looking around, they still provides to go and left over containers in styrofoam.
Food was great and cooked well, but I was so sad and mad to receive my dish in a to go order, full set with plastic utensils and a plastic bag and all the tiny plastic sauces containers that are not recyclable in WA. I asked the lady who served me to immediately removed all sauces containers and the bag from my dish i.e., styrofoam bento set, so now they are not included in this picture when I took it. I told her "I do not use styrofoam" when she saw my upset face, but she still trying to offer me a plastic spoon for the soup and again offering me a plastic bag for my left over boxes (I brought my own Tupperware in my backpack to pack my own leftover), which I said no to all.
I also notice after start eating that the styrofoam where they put the fried tempura and gyoza has holes from burnt, probably from putting too hot food in right away.
Unless they putting much much more effort in going more green, I probably not attending this...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped by Nikki Teriyaki for the first time after spending hours walking around Pike Market place. We were staying at the hotel next door and looking for something quick and close. Asian cuisine sounded good, and this spot seemed convenient. It was around 7 PM when we arrived, and the place wasn’t busy at all. The restaurant has clearly weathered some years. Nothing fancy, but relatively clean. The woman at the counter greeted us after helping another customer. Her demeanor was dry and expressionless, not exactly a warm welcome, but we greeted her with a smile anyway. We ordered chicken teriyaki with rice and gyoza and just chicken teriyaki with white rice but no gyoza. The food was ready in under 10 minutes, and we took it back to our hotel to eat. The portion sizes were generous. I had enough leftover for the next day. There was extra sauce in our platters, which we didn’t mind. Overall, the food was fine, not outstanding, but decent for a quick, no-frills meal...
Read moreYou know those little hole-in-the-wall restaurants you come across. You were in the mood for teriyaki; they were the nearest available, so you go. It's great for To-Go. I'm not too concerned about the "environment" so the complaints about the atmosphere don't bother me. I've eaten some of the best food standing up, outside a food truck in the rain.
Anyways, some time ago I worked in the area and stopped by for lunch. I got teriyaki chicken (spicey!), rice, salad and a side order of gyoza. Memorable enough.
My contract was over soon after, so I forgot about the place.
I was in town for the holidays, and the family wanted pizza (Dominoes is right next door), so I ordered pizza from the app. When I got to the area, it was familiar. I picked up the pizza, and got teriyaki for myself. I'm going to have to go again, the family was jealous. I'm fine with...
