Spent some time trying to find somewhere that didn’t have an hour wait for dinner, and Keys bite had availability.
We ordered the fried platter (fish, shrimp and mahi) fish tacos (blackened) a grilled cheese, and the coconut shrimp basket.
We went out with my mother in law and our step daughter, who can both be hard to please.
Mom in law was very happy with her tacos. She was offered corn or flour tortillas, she chose flour. The fish was fresh tasting, seasoned well, and not too spicy. She really enjoyed the home made salsa, which was a chopped salsa reminiscent of pico de gallo.
The kiddo ordered a grilled cheese with fries, and she cleaned her plate, which barely ever happens.
I got the coconut shrimp. It tasted fresh and was crispy, and was not overly sweet. I didn’t love the sauce that came with it. It was a mango-y chutney type sauce, but there was something in the sauce I didn’t love, although I couldn’t put my finger on it it was almost like there was something savory, like cumin in it.
Last was the fish platter. It was enjoyable, and was a lot of food, but didn’t knock anyone’s socks off. Just good.
We also ordered two desserts, the key lime pie and the coconut cake. Both of these desserts were excellent. The key lime pie was creamy, sweet and tangy. The coconut cake was huge, definitely enough for 2, and light and fluffy. The coconut flakes in the frosting were lovely and just enough.
Overall, this place has a diner vibe and diner prices, which is great, but the quality isn’t that of a 4-5 star restaurant. Everything is good and tasty, and all the plates that we saw come out looked really good.
This place also serves breakfast, and I think we may have to go back and see what’s up with that...
Read moreThis restaurant is known for its breakfasts, but we were looking for dinner, and were thoroughly equally impressed!
The first thing about this informal, welcoming restaurant is the menu - it's one of the largest and most varied on the keys! They have everything, from fried baskets to seafood appetizers and platters to Mexican, chicken, beef, and pasta dishes. Very impressive selection! This is highly recommended as a family stop, as pretty much every palate in a group will more than find at least several delicious options. This is one of the top 2-3 menu offerings in our experience all up and down Route 1!
I was in the mood for a big dish, so I got the fried seafood platter. It was very good, fresh and delicious. The southern-style hush-puppy type fried crust was scrumptious, the seafood hot, and the sides equally fresh. My dinner partners all felt the same about their meals. There was nothing lacking whatsoever as to our experience with flavor and taste.
The decor is down-home and informal, the staff more than polite, and the food came quickly and was fresh and hot.
This will be one of our go-to's on Keys trips,...
Read moreWas on the way back from Key West to Miami when we decided to stop at a place we saw a billboard for. When we stopped it was closed but lucky for us we saw Keys Bite right next door and decided to try it out. Great little restaurant that was very clean with a great staff. Seemed to be very popular with the locals as well as visitors like me and my girlfriend, and it should be as the food was very good and the service excellent. They had a varied menu with several Mexican dishes as well as seafood and the usual lunch fare. We stopped for lunch but others that came in ordered breakfast which looked quite good as well. My California Chipotle wrap had turkey, avocado, bacon and lettuce and was extremely tasty with the Chipotle sauce. My girlfriend had the Islamorada sandwich that consisted of Mahi Mahi and other toppings. It was very fresh and prepared, just right, on the grill. Value was excellent. If your ever in the area I highly recommend you stop...
