First time and the service wasn't all that great! Normally travel into Hoboken but figured I would do something different with my husband and son on a nice Saturday out. Wait time wasn't too bad and the hostess (didn't get her name) upstairs was VERY polite and attentive. Our server and service could have been better. Ordered out drinks and then gave our order for food. Our server wrote it all down which was just simple appetizers, bowl of soup and sandwich for my husband. When our food came which was very quick turn around time we were amazed, however my son "simple" chicken tenders did not come out with the rest of the meal so we waited. We waited at least another 20mins which was very strange. Finally I called over the server and questioned why it's taking so long? My son was hungry and still no tenders after 30mins went by. I finally stopped another worker and asked him to check but still nothing. Then I asked the hostess to check and told her what happened she seemed to be the most that was concerned. She came back with the tenders after another 7 mins went by. I ordered fries with it on the side but that didn't come either. It wasn't all that bust initially when we sat down and ordered. At this point I was just very disappointed that we drove from North Plainfield on a nice day out and my son sat hungry waiting on just simple tenders and fries. Our server never really seemed concerned and of course once the bill came she was very nice and I pointed out that he never received his side of fries and it's on the bill. If she was attentive then she would have seen he was waiting on his tenders and never received his fries. It was just a disappointment because it's a great spot, but we noticed other great spots that we could have visited instead and gave our business. Surprised to find out that you have to pay 3.50% if you pay by credit card which is a service fee. Ridiculous! So we paid our bill, extra $10 service charge because we were using a credit card then we still left her a tip. Unbelievable to charge a service charge that high because used payment on a card and not cash. After spending over $300 in 2+ hours, and paying 2 seperate tabs with different friend groups, the cops were called on myself and my wife... unreal..
Reason being "we walked out of a 3rd $80 check". I was bringing my wife to the car, 10 feet away, and told the bartender JOE. Joe demanded i give him my card immediately because he did not believe me. I reminded him "2 tabs were paid already, ill be back in 1 min". JOE called the cops immediately while i was still inside the restaurant.
Cops came quickly, i waited. Cops CLEARLY agreed this was a radiculous power trip by bartender JOE, and actually recommended i write this review. THANK YOU KEYPORT OFFICERS FOR HAVING MY BACK!
To the owner: Joe should never be on the front lines of customer service, and the cops agreed. 100% incompetant, no good for business. He did however, enjoy his 2 previous tips. Why were we targetted? I have a suspicion but that opinion will not add value. In general, your employee's actions were unacceptable.
The rest of your staff was excellent, very patient and listened. JOE went off the rails without asking any of his superiors, and caused a scene in front of over 30 other customers. JOE is the reason you will lose a 10+ year long customer with a large family. Your manager was excellent and attempted to de-escalate, but cops were already called.³
Bartender Joe also LIED. This is a big problem. He told told the cops i was intoxicated and trying to drive home in an attempt to "show me who's boss" in his words... Thankfully, that was an EASY one for the cops to CLEAR, and I went home. Why lie Joe?..
What happened today is not okay, please find employees that enjoy the customer aspect, work with integrity, and help make your business profitable... not JOE who had a clear lack of dicipline. Please remind JOE he is not in management, and needs to check his facts prior to making serious accusations. Law enforcement time wasting is a problem. JOE threated me that his "friend" cops were coming, but fact are facts, and JOE looked silly...
Customers: there are MANY places in the area ... be carefull with this one.. especially with bartender JOE. Plenty of great food and drinks on...
Read moreThe most disgusting eggplant parmesan dinner with pasta I have ever had. It was a special on the blackboard without prices listed. I had asked the waitress if the tomato sauce was homemade which she said it was. My eggplant had no flavor, the sauce was thick and acidic and tasted like tomato paste, not marinara sauce. Both my friend and I who dined there are Italian. I asked her to taste my food and her face told it all.
I only ate about 1/3 of my dinner and told the waitress when she inquired if "we were good" that the dinner was not. I didn't want to make a big stink with complaining and told her so. When we received the bill and saw the price for an eggplant parmasean dinner with a side salad (which i did not get by choice ) was $27.00 my face dropped!!!! I then asked the waitress to check the price of the dinner because it was $27.00. She checked and said it was the correct price. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND charges $27.00 for eggplant parm? even if a side salad is included. I then complained and several staff had a "meeting" to discuss what to do to then come back to tell me there was nothing they could do about the price. They did offer me the option to have another entree which I declined since we were gettin ready to leave and my friend had already finished her burger. As we were leaving the restaurant my friend made mention about how poorly this was handled given the complaint about the food and the overpricing for the dish. We were then told by the staff, that there was nothing they could do because they tried to call the manager (I believe that is the term they used) and were not able to reach the manager by phone so they couldn't' do anything. Who runs a restaurant without giving authority to staff to address customer issues at that time?
