great vegan tasting and healthy foods. the prices are reasonable. the decor is comfortable and clean. i had the sandwich called the big lebowski. we loved. it comes in a paper box with a little macaroni salad (delicious), about 6 corn chips, a couple of pickle slices (sweet) and a small kale salad (delicious). we also had the chili which comes in a heavy paper cup with 2 bags of soup crackers. (fyi, for careful vegans, the ingredient list includes plain sugar, i.e., that is normally interpreted as plain white sugar which is made by taking sugar syrup and passing it through charred animal bones. it tasted like what good chili tastes like. the iced coffee with non-white sugar (or agave) tasted like i could sip it all of the time. it's not a bitter coffee. we also shared a walnut brownie. i looked at it in the cold display case and thought it would be dry. not so. it was moist and delicious. if eating in (16 seats at 5 tables are available), the new protocols are you go up to the counter look at the paper menu (breakfast, salads, sandwiches, smoothies, drinks, desserts) and the chalk board, place your order and pay. when it's ready someone will bring to your table. i think when you're done you bus your table and bring it to the counter. we did. imho, the menu is creative and the food is very tasty whether vegan or not, and healthy. normally, i would count decor as part of my star rating but the food is so good i gave it 5 stars anyhow. p.s. they seem to do a brisk take...
Read moreI've been eating at nature's for a year or so now, the nearest vegan cafe to my location in S.I closed down in 2021 so now the closest fully vegan spot is nature's and I have to say that the food definitely delivers.
I've tried a lot of items on the menu and the majority of the food seems to be house-made. The desserts taste fresh and the chocolate cake is to die for.
I can also sense that the juice they make is from fresh fruits/veggies unlike most places that just sell store bought stuff or premade stuff.
My personal favorite on the menu is the greek gyro hands down. The seitan is housemade and I don't know what method they use or exact ingredients, but they have perfected the taste and texture to be delicious. I'd love for nature's to develop a harissa based red sauce to tag along with the gyro as an add on for the future!
Their signature salad is wholesome as well, it has lots of fresh veggies such as beets and etc.
Another thing about this place is the town itself, it has some peaceful scenery and a chill atmosphere. I usually walk around the local shops and it's never crowded. I can always get parking and a pleasant walk by the water, it's a break from the NYC noise.
I wish they'd open a second spot in Staten Island for the future since our southern part has no vegan cafes or restaurants but nonetheless, I highly recommend checking...
Read moreTwo weeks ago I was thrilled to see that Nature's Plate re-opened because they are 100 percent vegan. I had the raw pizza which was now better than ever. I've had it in the past and it was too "heavy" for me. Whatever they changed, it was a good move because it was great.
Yesterday, my husband and I went back. I tried the tofu scramble with spinach and mushrooms. Sadly, I did not enjoy it. It was overcooked and loaded with SALT, SALT, SALT, and more SALT. The meal was a heart-attack waiting to happen. I left most of it and I'm usually one to clean my plate.
However, I am still giving 4 stars because it's all vegan and the "butter" on the bread was wonderful, a mix of coconut and olive oil. Also, the owner, Mark is very, very nice, and he plays alternative music (The Cure, Pixies, Talking Heads).
When I come back, I'll just make a note to tell the...
