1903 Bar and Kitchen — Restaurant in Kill Devil Hills

We came Monday June 30th a bit late at night (I am leaving specific details so that the bartender who said this KNOWS this is about her) and just got a couple drinks and an appetizer. It was the second time we were there and idk what the problem was this time around, but I had a wonderful time the first time with Theresa and Kim serving us. This time was not so great. Diana (spelling?) was very lovely but our other bartender was definitely not.

Please train your bartenders that no matter how controversial or wrong they find a conversation/argument between a couple, don’t butt in to it with your personal opinion and DEFINITELY do not say slurs like the R word. She said the R word directly to me out loud. Kitchen staff and other BOH workers do whatever in the kitchen, but she was working front of house in front of real people from all walks of life.

I think she would know better than to say that out loud to patrons at the bar. Look, I know its normal for people to get rowdy at a bar, but the bartender that works there and serves the public should be held to a bit higher standard than a drunk person, no? I also get that not everyone finds that word particularly offensive, but saying it directly towards me definitely makes it so!

It’s still a great place, I love that they have pool tables and arcade games. The food is awesome and their fried apps are so crispy and perfect. Amazing mozzarella salad. But I really don’t like hearing FOH say slurs, especially when I’m not even talking to them :( If “party like it’s 1903” means getting slurs hurled at me, I’d rather...

My wife and I stopped in for a date night and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. There was live music playing when we arrived, which set a fun and welcoming tone. The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed — perfect for a night out.

We started with the truffle fries, which were crispy, flavorful, and a great way to kick off the meal. For our main course, we shared both the chicken wing flight and the taco flight. Each option was unique and delicious, and you could tell the ingredients were fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Some of the better chicken wings I’ve had in a long time. Everything we tried was spot on — no complaints at all.

We also tried a couple drinks. I had the thyme blackberry bourbon cocktail, and it was excellent — smooth, well-balanced, and just the right amount of creativity. The drink menu had a great variety of options, which added to the overall experience. For everything we purchased - an appetizer, two meals, two drinks each - the value was great!

The staff was warm and attentive throughout the evening. After the band wrapped up, the background music kept the vibe going strong. Great choice of music too. Considering they had big shoes to fill after Two Roads moved to their new location, they’ve really stepped up and made the space their own. More TV’s, a place for live music, a pool table, and all new decor throughout to keep the tavern and bar feel.

Well this was a place we had been wanting to try, and had high hopes. I guess too high. Bartender was great, and very informative. She gave recommendations and was very nice and prompt! We ordered garlic parmesan smoked wings and a pizza. The wings are the only reason that this place is 3 stars! They were fresh, big wings, and tasted smoked. Definitely smoked! But next time I would tell them to double the garlic parmesan sauce, as it was barely recognizable on the wings. There wasn't even any extra sauce on the bottom of the plate, which is normal, to soak those last few wings in. But still a solid wing. The pizza was barely edible.....crust was supposedly homemade, but tasted like a stale saltine cracker, minus the salt. Toppings were good. Sauce tasted like something straight out of a gallon can. Absolutely no flavor. No salt, garlic, sugar, basil, or anything you could recognize. Borderline frozen pizza. Big disappointment! I guess it's a good "drunk pizza"...lol. I wish nothing but the best for this place, as it's within walking distance of one of our favorite vacation spots, but I'm definitely not going for the pizza next time.
