I've never felt inclined to write a review on a business however seeing as I had an absolute blast on my visit, here goes.
Customer Service: I visited on Mothers Day & although there weren't food trucks present Curves was on point with her customer service, professionalism, & friendly demeanor where we had great conversations that I almost forgot I needed to eat. She was very enthusiastic about the brewery, "only brewery in the Killeen area," & spoke about the many events they hold there which can all be found on their social media pages.
She hyped all of her management team up starting with the owner Nick who is a Veteran that gives back to the community.... Next is Mark who is their head brewer and taproom manager who makes all the beer that is served (minus one) in house. Next is Manager on the brewery side Sharon who if you would like to get into brewing your own beer is the person to speak with... While she is the manager on the brewery side, she is also the Assistant Manager for the taproom and is responsible for all the fun entertainment provided. Taking a look at all the things the brewery offers in terms of entertainment, she is definitely doing a great job. Many people tend to skip over their management team when giving praise but not Curves, she hyped hers up which tells me they are doing something right.
Beer: Now for the beer... I had a couple Flights & I've gotta say, their prices are extremely fair ($10 for 4 different beers). Out of all 8 that I tried, I definitely walked away with a few favorites (Hooah, Silver Knight, Valkyrie, & Helles on Wheels). The Brewery also sells & fills growlers (you can bring your growlers in to be refilled). I overheard Mark & Curves discussing pitchers so I assume they offer that option as well.
Food: Although there wasn't a food truck scheduled on Mothers Day (Understandable), popcorn was made available free of charge so that was pretty cool. I was also told that its a pretty chill environment in that you can bring your own food or have some delivered.
Vibe/Atmosphere: I noticed there were a couple kids present & asked if it was a one-off thing seeing as it was mother's day where I was advised that aside from comedy night, the brewery is family friendly and that children are welcomed. The Brewery has a bouncy house & many board games available for both adults & children.
Merchandise: The brewery has many different shirts, hats, stickers, and even cigars for sale.
Parking: It wasnt too packed today but I did notice parking could pose a problem on busier nights.
Unfortunately Im not local and only passing through, otherwise I'd be a loyalty member (free of charge to sign up) & would more than likely be a regular.
I think I covered all the bases on this review... Seriously yall, come check this place out!
Ps Curves, if you see this, don't stop being you! You really are #FDK 🫣🤣 (Fun, Daring, & Kind) & really made my day. Also, please be safe on your upcoming motorcycle...
Read moreThis is the only craft brewery in Killeen. I have been to hundreds of craft breweries (without exaggerating) and I would say this one is above average. They can easily compete with the breweries in Austin without the hour drive.
The Staff - I have met the owner, Nick, who is a veteran and gets the concept of what a craft brewery should be, which is not always the case with some breweries. The head brewer, Mark, is very knowledgeable and does great work. They are focused on the process and the details. The bartenders are friendly and helpful. They will encourage you to drink water after you've had 4 or 5 too...
The beer - They beer is good, but keep in mind it will not taste familiar. Many people complain that craft beer isn't "good" because they are not used to craft beer. Get a couple flights and you will find one you like. They have a decent variety of styles. Not every one will be your favorite. Keep an open mind. I personally like the Silver Knight the best. If you didn't find one you like give the a few months and come back. They will have new beers. This is the true benefit of being a microbrewery.
They always have something going on (live music, trivia, karaoke, etc.). They do rotating food trucks which are always bomb. Check out their facebook page before you go to see what you're in for lol.
My only critique would be the tap room seems uninviting and cluttered at first. They have been making many changes in the last few months and that has improved. I'm sure they are not done yet. If you had a bad experience in the past I encourage you to try it again. They are building from the Iron Gauntlet (the former brewery in the same spot) and have been open less than a year as of this post. Things have probably changed by now.
Disclaimer: I have no conflicts of interest or financial investment in this company. I'm like Zaphod Beeblebrox, just this guy, you know? I just love craft beer and want to see veteran owned companies be successful. So please take my advice: set aside some time Saturday night and get a couple of flights and maybe a...
Read moreThe people were amazing and really added something to this place. The popcorn was unexpectedly awesome, like the best popcorn I can remember having. I don't know how much the beer influenced my perception, but the popcorn was buttery but not too much so and the salt was just spot on. They also had a nice pool table and better than your average bar table cue sticks. Also, the pool and darts were free. Between the laid-back vibe and nice people, this was a great place to spend the evening.
I know, I know, "but what about the beer?" Well, most of them have some growing to do, but there were a couple of decent ones that I stuck to after I tried out most of the menu. The other thing that I found quite unique was the "beer mixers." Now, most serious beer people would consider it beer heresy, but they have two beers on tap that are crips, clean, and just asking to be flavored, and that's what they did. You can pick from many different syrups and, well, I wouldn't be surprised to see this feature offered at every bar in the future.
Although I had a great time, I only gave 4 stars because a lot of the beers need some refinement before I can give it the full 5 stars. I would not let a less than perfect rating from stopping you from going and hanging out with some good...
