We tried the new Hot Dog Hut for the second time today, we were frequent visitors during the original ownership (never visited during the most recent ownership that closed).
During our first visit we tried hotdogs, the crispy chicken sandwich, and the fresh cut fries. The fries were very very good, as was the chicken sandwich. The chicken is a real piece of chicken instead of mystery meat like you find some places.
I did not enjoy the hotdogs overall, a few of us felt the buns were too hard like they had been toasted too long. The highlight was the chili which according to their Facebook, seems to be homemade. It was delicious.
During our second trip today I wanted to try my favorite dish from the previous ownership, the nachos. As ordered, the nachos come with a chili that has beans in it so I asked to have the delicious hot dog chili instead which they said was no problem.
The nachos were ok, I would say they were average, nothing special. One suggestion I would give is to offer the option to have nacho doritos instead of plain tortilla chips with the nachos, this is what made the previous edition of these so good. The chili was still extremely good and I believe if you just change the chips this would be a very good dish. We also tried the onion rings which were very good.
Overall the new owners seem very nice, the inside has been remodeled and there are plenty of seats. The prices are fine and the food seems like good quality that is delivered quickly. I hope they improve on the good things they already have so this place can...

Oh no! What happened to the chili? I usually try to get a pound of chili here for get-togethers. For Memorial Day I forgot to get it early so I ended up going to Pal's.
This past weekend I cooked some hamburgers, hotdogs, and chicken for the family on my new Blackstone and thought, hey I should go get some chili at Hotdog Hut. Drove there, bought a pound, and headed back. I didn't even look at it until I was fixing my plate and I was kinda shocked at how it looked. It was not what I was expecting.
While eating, my dad was the first to bring up how different the chili was. I can't remember exactly what he said but it was not a compliment. I finally tried it and I agreed, it was not good, unfortunately.
Why did you change the chili? Please bring it back, lol! The staff was very friendly and I did notice they had more menu items than before so we may go back and try other items. But I mainly went here for the hotdogs, specifically the...
Read moreThis is a review of the 2024 Hot Dog Hut under new ownership. I was so glad it finally opened, after about 3 different delays! However to my disappointment this is NOT a real Hot Dog Hut like the 2 previous 2 owners kept it instead it has a totally different menu with higher prices. Worst part their food is NOT even close to being of the quality of the owners before. Food didn't taste good and another time, yes I went twice, the food was cold and not eatable. If you want a good hot dog go to the one downtown or the one in Bloomingdale. I prefer the one in Bloomingdale because they are closer to Mike Locke's version of a Hot Dog Hut. So sad these new owners felt they could improve on a 30+ year old franchise. Pretty stupid actually but I'm sure people will go there because Colonial heights has such limited options. I keep going to Jersey Mike's, at least they several fresh GOOD food not trash! Remember this is for the NEW Hot dog Hut that opened in...
