I took my family here for lunch on a Sunday. The reviews looked good and the food looked delicious in the photos. It wasn't busy when we arrived - nobody in the bar and three tables occupied in the restaurant. There was one waitress working by herself who was nice and got to us within a few minutes. She took our drink order and that's when things got weird.
I could see she was running back and forth from room to room with cups of ice... perhaps ice behind the bar, soft drinks and sweet tea elsewhere. I don't know. It took a while, but she brought our drinks. The sweet tea was good. The Coke and Sprite were flat. I heard a lady at another table mention her Coke was flat, as well.
We ordered a couple of burgers for the kids, a KC chicken sandwich, and a chorizo sandwich. We attempted to order a Cuban sandwich, but they were out of ham.
We saw some folks from another table get up and they left half their food uneaten, which was we thought was odd.
We sat and waited for our food seemingly forever. Our drinks ran empty and it was quite a while before we got refills - the flat sodas were replaced by another sweet tea and two waters. The waitress was kind enough not to charge us for two of the sodas.
We continued to wait for our food after watching another family get their food, eat, pay and leave. Nobody else was served food in that time. At one point, the cook walked out of the kitchen vaping, took a short break, and went back in. I got up to use the restroom and saw three plates that looked like ours sitting under a heat lamp. We waited another five minutes and all the food came out.
The kids liked their burgers and everyone thought the fries were good. My wife and I both tried each other's dishes. We found almost no difference in the chorizo sandwich and the KC chicken sandwich other than the presentation. The meat on both was very salty. Despite liking salt, my wife didn't finish her food.
Sadly, our experience didn't match that of many of the other reviewers. This place seems to be great for families, but the delay in service left our kids and others impatient. There were some really great looking items on the menu that we would have liked to try down the line, but unfortunately, I don't think...
Read moreMy first & last time at this restaurant. The 45 minute wait for our food, lacking customer service and total cost with the extra alcohol tax charge for non-alcoholic drinks are the turn-offs for us. My boyfriend & I were in Kingsport, visiting from Virginia, and decided to check out this place since it appeared to have a cool vibe online. We parked in a back parking lot & came in a back door which was unknowingly the bar/lounge side. An employee said to sit anywhere so we sat at a table near the bar. After waiting a few minutes of no one bringing a menu or taking our drink orders, I took a menu from another table. We waited a few more minutes then went into the next room with more tables since it appeared to be more of a dining area. A woman took our orders immediately once we were in that room. She was friendly & informed us of the daily specials. There was a family at another table that was finished eating & left a few minutes later. So we were the only ones in the dining room with one couple at the bar. About 10 minutes later another small group came in. About 25 minutes in, someone brought us two plates (biscuits & gravy and something else) but it wasn’t what we each ordered (sandwich and fries). So we continued to wait. During this time no one checked on us, offered to refill our drinks, or to inform us of how much longer it would take for our food to be ready. After 45 minutes of being there (assuming they were just short-staffed), I mentioned to the woman behind the bar that we had to leave & I’ll pay for our two teas & they can cancel our food order. She said she would check on the cook & then immediately came out with our food, so I don’t know how long it had been sitting there. We ended up getting it to-go since we no longer had time to eat it there. She gave me the receipt to sign and she left. I noticed an alcohol tax was charged & we only had sweet tea, no alcohol. I’m not sure where she went & I didn’t have time to wait to ask about it. I’m not sure if it’s a Tennessee restaurant tax that is automatically added since they sell alcohol or why it was on there?? We later ate the food & it was good but not worth the 45...
Read moreI would not order from here again. I live nearby and ate here on opening weekend. We had a 1-2 star experience (poor quality, out of many menu items, etc), but it was opening weekend so I declined to write a bad review. We have revisited this restaurant and have more of the same, and new, problems.
We ordered (pickup) the 2 chicken dinner, which is advertised as 2 whole chickens, 4 large sides, and 1/2 gallon of tea for $48.50 (per the KCI Facebook menu). Now, not only is the meal more expensive, but also no longer comes with the tea AND includes mysterious upcharges for some sides like green beans and plantains? (see attached receipt). They were again out of the yucca. They also charge an additional credit card fee. None of these fees were mentioned while ordering.
The strange part of it all is none of these upcharges show up when you try to order through doordash and they even give you the option to select drinks.
The chicken and bright green dipping sauce are easily the star of the show. Well seasoned and tasty. Unfortunately, these are very tiny chickens and had very little meat (compared to say, a basic rotisserie chicken from a supermarket). The chicken and the green beans were also packed with so much watery sauce that the bag was full of it and leaking by the time we got back home (less than a mile away). The green beans were good. The plantains were good. The cole slaw was pure mayo with specs of veggies in it with little seasoning, not good. The black beans were bland and needed a lot of salt and pepper to salvage, not good.
This restaurant has potential and several tasty items but unfortunately I've had two poor experiences years apart and cannot recommend it for the...
