Sugar Coated Bakery — Restaurant in Kinston

I have stopped here on several occasions and have had great friendly service every single time. My family has tried several different items from Sugar Coated Bakery and all of them have been wonderful. We had the pleasure of trying their regular cinnamon rolls, cannolis, macrons, cupcakes, and frosted sugar cookies. The pricing I feel is very fair. The treats are very consistent in both size and flavor. You don’t get two sugar cookies that are differently sized or that differ in flavor from one day to the next. They have the added bonus of occasionally keeping items at the Daily Grind coffee shop located next door so even on weekends when they may not be open you still have the opportunity to grab a special treat!

This place is fantastic! Probably my favorite donuts on earth so far, and no, that's not an exaggeration. They have a limited selection of flavors and options, but they are all fantastic. The cream filled donuts are a special outlier to me. Big chains like Dunkin and Krispy Kreme poke a hole in the donut and fill it, Usually resulting in one bite with no cream, and the next bite with all the cream. THESE fantastic desserteers split the donut in half, slather in some cream, and put it back like a sandwich. It's odd, it's a little messy sometimes, but it is BY FAR the better way of doing cream filled donuts IMO. I'd give 6...

Came in yesterday to try the desserts the selection was nice. I got the oeey goey cake, cinnamon spice cake with cream cheese and another cake labeled B-Day cake. The ooey goey cake bar was great but the B-day cake was spoiled and old. I asked the cashier what was special about it and she said it had a different icing that made it taste like birthday cake but looking back it definitely must have just been old cake that they boxed up and sat in the front of the display to quick. Even though the ooey gooey bar was good I will not be returning....
