This afternoon, while I was lounging around my cave of an apartment after work, an angry spirit popped up out of nowhere and threatened to evict me from my couch if I didn't leave voluntarily. I mean, just because I've been a hermit for the past two weeks, working, sleeping, and reading a few books, doesn't mean I should be kicked out for the evening. But hey, the angry spirit seemed to have a point since I hadn't seen the sun in a week.
So, the spirit and I decided to embark on a new adventure and try some new food. Our journey led us to Kirkwood, where we stumbled upon the loudest place in town - Billy G's. This restaurant was a mix of indoors and patio, with live music blaring and a bustling atmosphere.
After a being told our table would be a 30-minute wait (which felt like a win for a Friday night), we settled at the bar and ordered some girly, fruity drinks. As we listened to the tunes, my phone buzzed to let us know our table was ready. We followed our guide to a cozy booth at the back, where our waitress greeted us with specials and recommendations.
After a humorous debate with the spirit about beans (apparently be deal-breaker along with premonition of where i would spend the night if i ate them, the couch), I settled on a Reuben sandwich for me, a fish sandwich for the spirit, and some wings as appetizers. The wings and drinks appear and vanished in no time, and our sandwiches finally arrived.
As we marveled at the gargantuan size of the fish sandwich and placed a cheeky bet on the spirit's ability to conquer it, we dug in eagerly. The Ruben was a revelation, the pastrami like a gift from the heavens, the Swiss cheese perfectly gooey, and the sauerkraut packed a tangy punch. After I had finished. I couldn't tear my eyes away as the spirit polished off the entire sandwich with gusto, declaring it scrumptious. Alas, I lost the wager and had to face the consequences of driving us back home.
All in all, Bill G's proved to be a charming spot for an evening out. The food and drinks hit the spot, the live music added a nice touch, and the vibe was as warm and welcoming as can be. I had a blast and can't wait to return...
Read moreFirst time to Billy G's. Parking wasn't too bad, but it is something to consider when heading to historic downtown Kirkwood. Plenty of seating inside and outside the restaurant. We took a seat at the bar and our drink order was quickly taken/served. I ordered half-rack of ribs with pit beans and potato salad. It took a reasonable amount of time to get our food out. They weren't crazy busy, but busy for lunchtime on a nice Saturday. The ribs were super tender, with the bones pulling out so easy. You definitely get that "smokey" flavor coming through with each bite. The sides were good, but I wish the pit beans had more going on, just kinda plain. Overall, for a first time experience, it was good. The atmosphere is lively and very comfortable. Will try another visit in the future to enjoy the outside seating.
Update: We recently returned for a Thursday evening dinner to enjoy the outdoor seating. Although we didn't have the opportunity (30 to 40 minutes wait time)to dine on the patio, we chose to be seated inside towards the back area of the restaurant where our table was right next to the opened patio doors, very nice. I ordered the brisket sandwich and it was so good. Brisket was tender, smoke flavor coming through with each bite, really good bbq. I would recommend the brisket sandwich (available Thursday through Sunday).
10/10/24 Update: We celebrated our birthdays a couple of nights ago at Billy G's. What a wonderful time! We sat outside at the bar and enjoyed how we were able to relax, no pressure to hurry our stay. We started off with the Toasted Ravioli, soooo good. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan and Cyndi ordered their Garlic Stir-Fry. Both dishes were delicious!
We enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere and certainly plan on...
Read morePicked to go here w friend for BDay for BBQ briscuit plate. Her first time here. Got there when opened. Empty tables everywhere yet placed her at far back near kitchen & a steam table ??? 10 min after we ordered waiter came back & advised briscuit & those sides only offered Th-Sun. We should have left then. I was hoping then they had patty melt. Waiter said they could do one by âbuild your burger â Did not ask how I wanted burger. I got an overcooked dry burger on some white bread. The burger filled only ½ the sandwich. Mostly dry (didnât appear toasted?) flavorless bread. Waiter asked how it looked. Advised patty Melts are rye bread. Thatâs what he thought & yes, they had rye bread. Yet no offer to replace bread. It was the worse tasteless burger Iâve had. With a handful of fries. $20. Since my friend treating me & this restaurant was my choice I didnât complain how bad it was. I should have sent it back. My friend asked if I wanted to go box for what I left on plate. It was all bread that had no burger & the waiter saw that & told her. He saw the sandwich was 60% bread without burger. Never an offer to remedy this crappy birthday lunch. Wonât be back as much as I liked their BBQ plate. And sure my friend wonât. Her chicken sandwich âokâ but didnât have the side she selected - advised 10 min after she ordered. Worse burger EVER. Been there month earlier & had briscuit plate & dined outside. Food great & outside nice. Too hot today tho and food was horrible. No offer to remedy my dry white bread and the dry tasteless little burger. Had so looked forward to the lunch & sooo...
