PINS LEFT IN WEDDING CAKE!
Britt’s Cakes are very good. HOWEVER, putting pins in something edible (like wedding cake) is incredibly dangerous.
The following day after our wedding when we took our top tier out of the box and into a container to be placed in the freezer, we found a pin in the cake (see pic).
We were very concerned as this was a 3 tier wedding cake that was served to 65 people and we were hoping none of our wedding guests including small children ended up with a pin in their cake.
My partner called Britt on Tuesday to express her concern and to figure out how many pins were in the cake. Britt said she used two pins per ribbon to hold the ribbon in place (we had 6 ribbons so 12 pins total)Britt said she communicated with the wait staff regarding the pins but she never communicated that with us, which was only discovered by us when we were putting the top tier away.
When we talked with Britt in the planning stages in designing our wedding cake we told her we wanted to use ribbon. Britt never told us that the ribbons would need to be held in place with small pins. She could have used edible glue or something other than small sharp pins. Further, she never communicated her plan to use pins with us. She may have communicated that to the wait staff, but she never communicated that with us, so we were left to discover that on our own.
My partner called Britt’s Bakehouse again on Wednesday and talked to a male. He was snobby about it and asked “Why can’t you just take out the pins?” My partner said, “would it be too big of an ask to remake the top tier for us?” The male at Britt’s Bakehouse responded, “yes, the would be too big of an ask.” And said Britt would call us back.
We pulled off the two ribbons not knowing we had to look for pins. In order to find the 3 missing pins, we would have to dig through the top cake layer.
We are still waiting for Britt to...
Read moreVery disappointed regardless of how many times they apologized. I ordered a birthday cake for my employee of 6/7 for pick up on 6/11 at 10am. When I arrived for my pick up, my order was not ready. They missed the order but offered other treats or could hand deliver my original order the same day at noon. I asked for them to deliver it around noon since it was a custom cake. No problem, I work in a retail setting so I completely understand missing an order. Around 12:15pm I called looking for the cake. I explained the situation was put on hold about 5 minutes and when the lady got back on the phone she said we can delivery it by 1:19pm. I asked if I could just come pick it up but she said no because it wasn't even made and that people went home sick blah blah blah.... Again, I understand I wasn't upset or anything, just now getting annoyed that I ordered 5 days ago and it was now 2 hours past the time I asked to pick up and it still isn't here. I called again at 1:27pm and spoke to Britt, she explained the same thing about people getting sick and whatever, but her brother was getting ready to leave right as we were speaking. She also said she was sending some free cookies along too. Great thanks... Finally got the cake around 2pm, 4 hours after I was initially supposed to pick up the order. I am grateful that they were willing to deliver since I was about 15 mins away from their store, but I am pretty disappointed with the presentation of the words on the cake. Cake was still warm and fresh (funny) and they provided some cookies and a nice card basically saying sorry and explain what I had already been told twice. Cookie cake was great, just disappointed with how the situation went and the presentation...
Read moreI was excited to discover a bakery near me that is completely gluten free. I have struggled with awful side effects from gluten for years and have avoided it for years as well.
However I am now experienced in finding or making delicious solutions. I am going to be completely honest, as I feel a lot of people are leaving overly-positive reviews with the fresh relief of having gluten free food accessible to them.
The bakery food was no less delicious than the gluten free section of any grocery store (think Katz donuts in the freezer section). I am all about shopping local and supporting local businesses, but this is for the people who need to worry about money as part of their experience at a bakery. I really wanted this experience to be positive and worth it for me.
The service was okay, everyone was cordial.
The food itself was okay - again - considering I’m already well versed in finding or making delicious gf substitutes.
The atmosphere looked like an employee break room, it wasn’t really pretty or cute. Minimal effort to the space itself and the merchandise to be honest. One tiny table with two chairs.
The prices were out of this world. I get it, gluten free supplies do cost more and paying people a fair wage costs more. We got a tiny cupcake and a donut, paid about $9 total. I was looking into the bread there. One medium loaf was ~$18.
But all of those things combined, I find it wasn’t worth it, and I likely won’t be back, at least any time soon. I do really wish they’d at least make the space cute so you can forget about the amount...
