Birdie's — Restaurant in Knox

We stopped in around 10:30 on a normal Monday, and the place was still quite full. We were invited to seat ourselves. The food came out fairly quickly and was very good. I think my meal was especially filling for the $9 paid. I ordered the "hillbilly stacker," a full order of four biscuits and sausage gravy topped by three eggs cooked to order on a bed of what they call "American fries." The biscuits were excellent, and the gravy was some of the best I've had, with little morsels of sausage. The potatoes were similar to the chunk-style hash browns. My wife ordered chocolate chip pancakes. She received two decently-sized cakes cooked with a nice crisp to the exterior. I felt there were plenty of large milk chocolate chips.

Our server was a nice older lady who initially brought us two smaller water glasses, then a few minutes later returned with two larger glasses of ice water. After bringing us our food and the check simultaneously, we didn't see her come by the table again. I didn't think they were that busy.

It's a nice, cozy diner that's tastefully decorated. It has a homey, small-town feel that makes it a great stop if you're in the area. Finding a nearby parking spot might be tricky--we got lucky. One final note: they are a paper-not-plastic establishment. ITS CASH ONLY there, now that's out of the way, since the only bad reviews are people complaining about it being cash only, I will explain why it is worthy of being a 5 star establishment. We've gone here a handful of times we as in my wife and daughter, never had any issues or even a sour face ( as stated in the 1 star review) we were actually immediately greeted by a huge smile and a "good morning y'all!" We were immediately seated and drinks were taken care of promptly. The waitress was fantastic with my daughter letting her place her order herself (she's 2) and being prompt with refills and order taking. Now as for the food, absolutely hands down the best corn beef hash I have ever eaten to date, that goes for the double bacon cheeseburger as well, you won't go hungry when you dine at birdie's! Do yourself a favor, grab the family and treat yourself to a home cooked meal....

My bestie & I were needing a Denny’s or an IHOP,. What we found was this place and it surpassed our food expectations.,The owner was loving of all her guests and she even trusted me to be short on the bill momentarily. Cash or check only in this old school establishment peeps!! She’s hardcore about no extras fees for her or you. Great food & authentic care for the customer served! Why care? Well served indeed.
