Capybara Coffee — Restaurant in Knoxville

One of my favorite places for coffee in Knoxville! We absolutely love going here and the coffee is top-notch. The owners really take coffee seriously and have a lot of knowledge when it comes to where beans are grown and how they are roasted--and it's clearly evident in the quality of their coffee. They offer a variety of coffee options--various methods for pour-overs, latte, cappuccino, macchiato--as well as non-coffee alternatives (including chai, matcha, an excellent tea collection, and rotating seasonal drinks). The location is great--it's just on the edge of campus and easily accessible. Although it's a popular spot for students, you can usually find a place to sit! It's super cozy and has a great atmosphere. Plus, they have seating outside as well (we usually bring our dogs along and enjoy our coffee outside with them). And, the food is amazing! They offer a variety of delicious sweet and savory baked goods and to be honest, you can't go wrong with any of them. We love Capybara and it's one of those special places that we bring all of our friends and family to as well. I was in this coffee shop recently, and was aggressively told to never return by one of the employees as I was leaving. From what I understood, this was due to me sitting in the coffee shop with a work associate and neglecting to purchase anything. If I had known that you all prohibited people from doing so, I would have left. I would have appreciated you communicating that to me in a respectful and non-hostile manner. Instead, the language and tone used when speaking to me was uncalled for and very threatening. The employee did also make physical contact with me by grabbing my jacket when asking me to leave which was extremely inappropriate and over-the-line. He gravely invaded my personal space and I will never come back to this place. If he had engaged me any further I would consider speaking to law enforcement. I strongly advise everyone to not use this place as a work/study area if you are not planning on purchasing some of their coffee.

The male owner of this establishment has severe anger problems that will ultimately get him arrested or his business shut down. I will never come back here and I will do my best to make sure everyone I know never...

We had a great time playing battleship, drinking our lattes! Others worked on laptops.

Food/Drink quality for price: typical, but the lattes did come in great mugs on saucers on wooden slabs!

Atmosphere: lively

Noise level: not too loud, but covers silence

Lighting: lots of natural light in front

Staff: super friendly! One of them gave me great recommendations on which fountain pen to buy next (:

Cleanliness: yes! We stayed till closing and they were doing their thing in every corner and surface.

Seating: 4 comfy sofa chairs in middle, several tables for 2 or 4, a few high tables with stools and a front high bar at the window.

Didn't look for outlets or check the WiFi here, but all the others working on laptops seemed content with whatever was there.
