EDIT: After visiting again, I had a much better visit! The cashier was very nice and we had a small discussion about the book I was buying. I still wouldn't come here to necessarily study since it can be noisy, but I felt a lot better browsing the second time around. After hearing a bookstore was opening where I live I was beyond excited. I will say that this place is GORGEOUS. They did a phenomenal job at renovating the space. Very cozy and quaint.
However, the overall ambiance felt cliquey. No one acknowledged us when we were in the store. Also, there was a group of friends talking on the couch, and it was impossible to tune out their discussion while browsing the books. It felt as if we had intruded some basement hangout or exclusive club meeting. When I am at a bookstore, I want to immerse myself in the book-browsing experience, but at FH, I found it impossible to do so because this group's conversation was overtaking the store. Of course, it isn't FH's fault that people are talking in the store but, I would like to have gotten a "welcome in" or some kind of acknowledgement, so at least I felt my patronage was appreciated.
I would've stayed longer, but I felt--I guess--"excluded". I was planning on buying something, but I was so uncomfortable that I just wanted to leave. I think if an employee just greeted us, I would have felt less like I was intruding someone's personal space.
I will definitely be going back because I don't want to judge the store based on only one experience, plus I would like to try the coffee. I am also keeping in mind that they are new, so they are still working out the kinks. Regardless of my personal experience, the store is very pretty, so I think it is definitely worth giving a try. I plan on updating this review after going in there a...
Read moreA business trip through Knoxville gave me the opportunity to visit Fable Hollow Coffee and Bookshop today which I was very excited about due to previous TikTok exploration. I came prepared with my reading journal and TBR lists, and planned to get a few books, if they were available. I was excited to actually find a few until I saw the price. Each one I picked up was above market value (think normally $20 hardback, marked to $31). That was disappointing, so no book purchases were made. I skimmed some of the miscellaneous items too. Very cute, but out of my price range.
I planned to grab a coffee on my way out and got mesmerized by a Strawberry donut. The donut was very pretty and tasted great! Messy- but great. My drink though.... something happened with this drink. It was a specialty/seasonal iced chai. I let my bf try it and his reply was, "I won't say this has soured...but something in this isn't right." I drank maybe a third, but had to dump the rest.
In terms of overall atmosphere, it was very nice and I wish there was something like this where I live. There were several seating areas and places to relax. Noticed their event board too which is cool. I expect it's a great place to hang out, meet with friends, or even take some "me time." If I lived closer, I'd be a regular based on environment.
Overall, I'm happy I got to visit and was happy with the last second donut add-on. Sad my book buying frenzy didn't...
Read moreOk, so I have to change my review. And just so you know, I love this magical witchy fantasy land. The problem is, they took away the outlets. It seems they moved things around recently and the outlets outside of the rooms are all gone.
I was coming to this place as my escape. My work away from the house. My safe haven with calm and peace and cozy - and the ability to get some work done. Because I would stay for a while, I would also end up having more coffees and tasty treats - still as tasty as ever, btw.
Don't get me wrong, it's still the coziest bookstore or coffee shop in Knoxville (with tasty treats from local makers and delicious coffee and tea) - but without outlets it can't be my cozy hideaway anymore. I asked about them, but it seemed like nobody I spoke to really cared.
That makes me sad...
So still go for the coffee and treats and books, just don't go thinking you can bring your laptop and do any work. For that it seems, I have to keep looking for a new home. ....
Just walking in with all the Autumn spices filling the air, add in the shelves lined with fantasy, mystery, and mystical romance and you have this perfect precious place.
I come here to work when I need some space and a cup of s'mores spiced chai. They also have book clubs, events, gamers and more. It's a sweet spot with locally made sweet treats that pair perfectly with your choice of caffeinated concoction whether coffee or...
