"Hot Chicken" joints better take notes! I pulled an illegal U turn in the middle of Kingston Pike when I noticed that this place had appeared in place of the long-running Japanese "Tomo". I went in, the place is totally casual yet perfectly clean. The server tried to explain how they were different from the typical Korean... I just kept it simple and ordered the lunch special: hot wings, french fried, cole slaw. My expectations were modest. How delighted I was when 5 minutes later a simple paper-lined metal tray was slid onto my table... the wings were as beautiful as wings could be! Glistening in red sauce, these things clearly had topography! Biting in, I could feel multiple layers of crunch and crispness, all the way into the juiciest meat imaginable. The "Korean Street Food" place clearly has the best hot chicken around. Even the (natural)fries had the perfect crispness outside and fluffy inside. The menu is much more diverse than my simple lunch special was, but my opinion as that if they can do such wonders with such simple fare then I would count on them to do well with everything else. This place is perfect for casual date-night for real foodies. They are working on the liquor license, when their bar is open the place will jump up a notch in popularity. I hope they will keep up this level of cleanliness and culinary excellence! Another unique addition...
Read moreI have been on a kick to explore Korean cuisine recently and I have so far loved all of the spots in Knoxville. K Pocha has been, without a doubt, one of the highlights. The potato and mozzarella corn dog was definitely different from any regular corn dog, but it was so delicious and the cheese pull was glorious! My husband had the beef bulgogi and it was amazing! Beef bulgogi is becoming a favorite of mine and they did not miss. I ordered the kimchi-jjigae, and it was the most perfect, flavorful bowl of stew I’ve had in a while. While I will most definitely be eating this year round, I can already tell it will become my go-to when it gets colder. I loved the effort and detail that they put into decorating and creating a unique atmosphere - we especially loved translating the posters while we waited! Our waiter was so kind, attentive, sweet, and such a delight! I also wanted to shout out their booth at the Asian Festival this year! We were lucky to snag the last bowl of japchae, and it was such a treat after walking around all day. Knoxville is lucky to have such a lovely spot that offers some of the best Korean food in town! I hope they are ready to get sick of me because I’m definitely coming back to...
Read moreI have been missing Korean chicken since the last 2 areas i have lived in didn’t have nearby. I decided to try K Pocha based on the high reviews. I went for the lunch special today (a Wednesday) around 12:30. There were 2 other tables with people so it was quiet and quick. I loved the cute cafe vibe. Service was attentive and taking care of the 3 tables effectively. I choose the garlic honey tenders and they were exactly what I’d hoped for. Super crunchy outside with tender chicken inside. Sweetly, sticky, salty, a little spicy (not hot at all though, just flavorful). The lunch came with fries which were like this beer battered style that I really like but don’t see very much at restaurants. There was also some cabbage with a dressing that looked and tasted like Russian dressing. The menu had lots of options that I’ve seen on Kdramas and so I can’t wait to come back and try out some other offerings! The chicken tenders seemed like a better texture and quality than I’ve had at chain type Korean chicken restaurant (though I have enjoyed Bonchon in the past, this was so...
