Myeong-ga (명가) truly lives up to its name [which means "famous/prestigious house"].
Have you ever had a soup that is both steaming hot and incredibly refreshing? The Galbi-tang (beef short rib soup) here delivers exactly that—a taste only those who've experienced it can truly appreciate.
We also ordered the Bossam (boiled pork slices). The accompanying whole-leaf kimchi was served not in small pieces, but in generous, beautiful quarters. This felt like a genuine gesture of respect for the guests. That feeling of being well-cared-for is something you have to experience for yourself.
I also ordered the Seonji Haejang-guk (hangover soup with congealed ox-blood). While it might fall slightly short of a dedicated specialty Seonji place, the fact that I left not a single drop in the bowl says it all!
The signs on the wall were quite memorable. One read, "Please do not take the leftover kimchi," which I'm hoping doesn't imply recycling! 😉
I highly recommend this place. A round of applause to the staff, who are incredibly kind, bright, and welcoming...

However, the staff's service is terrible at its worst.
Maybe it was the staff's mood that day, but if you're going to let your emotion to bring it on the client's food on the table such as throwing dish on the table while serving, not making any eye contact or looking away when the client is asking something about the menu or water, pretend not to listen when client is calling the server, and not greeting to the clients (I said Thank you to your staff more than your staff did to me) please find another profession. The only reason I didn't make any deal out of it was because I was by myself and I hate to ruin others' dinner by making any confrontation.
La Canada / La Crescenta is a small community and the words are going to spread fast. Keep up the terrible service, and you'll know what's...
Read moreWow this place is good. You get lots of meat, the broth is excellent, and the Kimchi, sauces, and onions are all so fresh and clean. Please do yourself a favor and get the galbitang, which is short ribs stew. It is their specialty, and absolutely delicious. Mine came with 4 bones packed with meat. Once I trimmed it off and dumped my bowl of rice into the noodle filled broth, it was packed to the brim with home cooked goodness. We also shared a blood sausage. If you've never had Korean blood sausage, it's not full of squishy mineral flavored paté like it's Latin counterpart. This is more of a pork casing filled with noodles, that is firm and clean tasting, with a hint of meat flavor. It comes with a seasoned salt that provides the perfect accent to the taste. Overall a...
