Great little spot for downtown La Crosse. Easily better than Qdoba. Cleaner, fresher, and better tasting.
I can easily state this about Tacomex, FRESHEST TACOS IN LA CROSSE.
Let's get the negatives out of the way. -Order's take a while to be prepared and served (not bad, it's worth mentioning)
What's makes Tacomex great? Made at the moment taco tortillas Super friendly staff Colorful and cheerful sit-down experience C-L-E-A-N.
What about the food? Chorizo Tortas, Pollo Quesidilla, and Birria Soft Tacos.
Chorizo Tortas Great tasting Chorizo. Came with a nice little spice (nothing to the point where you are screaming questioning lifestyle choices). This is the first time I've had refried beans on a tortas, it's a great addition.
Out of all the tortas I've eaten in the area, the bread is pillow soft, with nice bounce. Yet strong enough to handle the condiments. A good tortas.
Pollo Quesadilla Great take on a Quesadilla. Large portion size. If you're a picky eater, the quesadilla at Tacomex is flavorful and filling.
Birria Soft Tacos You can make the argument that Tacomex's soft tacos are in the top 3 for best in the area. What put's this taco best in my book is the made fresh at the moment taco tortilla. Whatever protein you pick, you'll be happy. However, that beef consommé ... chef kiss
The proteins I had with the meal were all flavorful. Not mass-produced ahead of time. Easily can be in the top 5 for flavor.
It's stated many times that the taco tortillas are made fresh AT THE MOMENT. True to their word: FANTASTIC.
The red and green sauces are nice and flavorful. Better than the American-Mexican place in Onalaska. There is a nice flavor, body, and mild heat to the sauces here. The sauces aregood addition to any of the dishes you pick. Not too hot if you can’t handle heat. If you’re looking for blazing, you won’t find it here.
It's easy to recommend the tacos here. Flavor profiles for any of the proteins are good. The sauces are solid and have body to their flavor, great addition to the meals. Prices are comparable, maybe lower in some aspects. The food I had was super filling. I'm coming back to try their burritos.
Service speed is slow, but you taste the attention to detail and quality of food being served; it's worth the wait. I would have no problems recommending a to-go or pick-up order if you don't have time to wait. The food will be good.
I'll have no problems coming back eating here. Food is a solid...

My husband and I recently visited TacoMex, and we were blown away by the entire experience! From the moment we walked through the door, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, setting the tone for a genuinely friendly and inviting atmosphere.
We ordered the birria tacos, and they were nothing short of phenomenal—hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The food looked as good as it tasted, and every bite was a perfect balance of savory richness and spice.
The restaurant itself was spotless, which added to our comfort and enjoyment. Cleanliness, great service, and incredible food? TacoMex checks all the boxes.
We’re already planning our next visit to explore more of their menu. If you’re looking for a place that delivers on taste, hospitality, and ambiance, TacoMex...
Read moreThey have electronic menus which cycle through pretty quickly. So if you don't know what you want, or if it's your first time there you have to stand there. And if you're slightly dyslexic like I am, which forces you to reread things, you'll probably end up just ordering the first thing that makes sense. My California burrito was all right but I don't know how I feel about french fries in a burrito. Maybe that was on the menu. Maybe not. Had I known about it I probably would have just stuck with tacos. But then I'm not sure what would have been on those as that too would have been a stab in the dark. Also there's no alcohol, which I didn't discover until I already ordered the burrito. I was stuck at that point. I don't hold it against them that they don't have a liquor license, but the revolving digital menu thing...
