Our stay was complicated by an unknown issue with the smoke alarm in our room. It went off at 11:15 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. from no fault of our own. I felt bad for the employees who seemed to have no training or competency about the alarm systems. They did not know how to locate the off button or even how to silence it from the main switchboard at the front desk. It was embarrassing and awkward for everyone. We had multiple people in and out of our room in for over an hour trying to remedy the situation, without an immediate offer of a room switch. We then had another staff person come in to do a poke-around to see if there were any kind of substances or other activities taking place in our room that were causing the alarm to go off. There was clearly no sign or smell of smoke, and it was again embarrassing and annoying. After the second incident and two staff people in our room trying to get the alarm to silence or turn off, I had to ask if we could be moved into a different room. I was told we could pack up all of our things and come down to the front desk, from the third floor where our room was, and we would be offered a new room. Why we had to bring all of our belongings and drag through the lobby was beyond me. When we arrive at the front desk, the same frustrated and disheveled employees are there. Now, although I was annoyed with them, I was mostly angry with the Marriott as a whole, because it seemed apparent that no one was given the proper training as to how to deal with these situations, both on the technical side and on the customer service side. The staff was ill-equipped to handle this situation and it made it rather uncomfortable and frustrating for all involved. When we arrived at the front desk in our pajamas at 12:30 a.m. I was told we could get the same type of room we were in on the second or first floor at half the price, or we could upgrade to the presidential suite. The fact that we were not offered a new room at a complete refund completely shocked me, and that is one reason why I would never recommend a Marriott stay to anyone nor will I ever stay in another one myself. The lack of respect and courtesy for the customer was appalling. I told the staff member that there was no sense in an upgrade, as we were only staying for one night and it was already 12:30 in the morning. I said we would take the same room we were in on the first floor, and expected a...
Read moreWife and I stayed at the courtyard downtown Lacrosse over Christmas this year. While the rooms are clean and I've certainly been in much worse hotels, they are small, bathroom very small no microwave in the room just one in the laundry area for the entire floor. Also we were opted out of having housekeeping clean our room even though we were there for four nights, and never told this. I probably should have said something but we were busy I mentioned it on checkout that we had overflowing garbage cans and towels piled up on the floor in the bathroom was told that Marriott's policies to clean every other day I then told the concierge we were there for four nights upon which time she advised me that we were opted out of having anyone come in even though the person checking me and never mentioned this. Also keep in mind if staying here over Christmas the line for the rotary lights goes right by the hotel making it hard to access. No free or complimentary breakfast just a very overpriced bistro, plan on getting breakfast elsewhere if staying here. Bottom line pretty much all of the hotels in downtown La Crosse are better I would recommend staying at any one of those over this location as it seems dated, small, without the amenities one would expect. To top it off the last night we were there our room lost power had to switch rooms we weren't offered anything for our...
Read moreI feel like I let my family down by booking this hotel. I thought I had the perfect hotel booked on the river with great views, a pool and whirlpool. We get to the hotel and the pool and spa were closed. The restaurant was closed. There was construction going on. We paid a premium price for a subpar experience. The clerks had obviously heard the disappointment before. They had the line down that it was on the website. It wasn’t. I looked at the site specifically. However, it was very small on the confirmation along with the COVID-19 info (that they didn’t follow.) The night and morning clerk all recite the same thing. I called the day before our arrival to confirm that we would have rooms next to each other. No one mentioned it at all. In fact, I confirmed that they had a pool and whirlpool. We arrived at 6:45 pm and had to wait to make sure our room was clean. Then, our two rooms were at completely opposite ends of the hall. On the second morning of our stay, I thought it might be nice to have a cup of coffee next to the rive on the patio with their fireplace as it was still a little chilly. I asked for them to turn them on, the clerk said that the were broken and couldn’t turn them on. This hotel has so much potential to be an awesome experience. Instead, it was overpriced and...
