Excellent food, terrible service, at least if it's Giovani working. Stood in line to place our order to eat in. It's my second visit in a year, so I'm not too familiar with Carnitas Uruapan. After I paid, I asked for two cups for the ice water dispenser on the counter. Giovanni gave me one cup. As I asked for a second cup, he handed me a straw. I again asked for a second cup. BTW, in fluent in Spanish and English. Finally, I received a second cup, filled both at the counter and proceeded to our table. After about 15 minutes, our order was called out. I went to the counter and was asked if it was to-do, I said no and the nice lady behind the counter just shook her head and scolded Giovani for not asking if it was to eat in. He just shrugged his shoulders. I assumed by this point it was clear our order was to eat in, I was wrong. A few minutes later the same lady brought our food which was now plated. I asked her for some salsa, apparently we were supposed to have been given chips and salsa when we sat down, again she called out Giovani for not serving us correctly. A few minutes later a plate of chips and salsa was brought to the table. One more time I had to go to the counter, this time to ask for silverware. Unbelievable how they stay...
Read moreIf they don't have the ability to handle a drive thru, they shouldn't offer drive thru services. The line is often into the street. The phone doesn't get answered if I try to call in my order while in line, to try to help the line. And today, someone was threatened with violence from a worker because they wanted to wait at the window for their food instead of pulling up(after already waiting 20 min). Used to eat here every Friday night plus other random visits, no more and I'll be sure to let people here and on the next door ap know exactly why. If you ask for someone to pull out of line at a drive thru, especially if they have already been waiting awhile and it isn't a fast food place where they are being timed, and they say no thank you, the proper response is to get their food asap and get the line moving properly, not threatening a customer with violence if they don't move their vehicle forward. I no longer recommend this place, no longer feel safe there. Hope the dude that was threatened and had his money thrown back at him goes to the police and reports it cuz that behavior is scary. Made me leave, now I'm looking for a...
Read moreSince at least I was in 5th grade, I have passed this way.
Since the first time, I have wondered about this building.
5th grade: What is a carnitas? Who is an Uruapan? 8th grade: There's that place again. I keep going by it. Seriously, what do those words mean? I know they are Spanish 12th grade: I wonder what their carnitas is like and where Uruapan is? My adult life: There is that place again. I wonder if it is good?
Yes. It is good. Get a couple pounds of Carnitas and knock it back family style with your friends.
Uruapan is the second largest city in Michoacán. It is the center of avocado production in Mexico. The name cones from the Purépecha language word "uruapani": plant that flowers and fruits at the same time. It was a major center of resistance in the Mexican revolution.
Carnitas is Mexican pulled pork.
Me and my friend ate it tortillas, cilantros, onions like it came on the plate. It is so good we didn't need any of the 4 excellent hot sauces. Horchata with light ice is on point. Chicharrones are fun.
One of my life's many mysteries are now solved. Bring on Regis and the million dollars. I have...
