This was my review from 2017 ... Great local authentic eatery. It has been open since the 70s, cozy and great value (Great food at relatively cheap prices). I go there at least once a week

Updating in August 2019..
New owner taking over retiring owner. This is very exciting because of the history the new owner brings. For those who lived in West LA during the last 30 years, there was a great eatery called Cafe Brazil in Culver City. When my business partner who lives in Venice found this out, he was completely estatic and came over immediately to try it out.. and he was not disappointed. The new owner was the chef at Cafe Brazil, and then he went to join the Four Seasons Beverly Hill kitchen staff. This is very serendipitous in the best way possible.. to get a chef of this caliber in SGV, and specifically in La Puente.
I've been dining at Cortes for six years, and know the outgoing owner well. His food and recipe is some of the best home style comfort food you can find. The new owner is keeping the existing menu and upgrading with his own creations. I included a picture of the special vegan plate they made for us.
I had the garlic linguini w grilled chicken last week and it was fantastic. My wife also loved it (and finished what was supposed to be my lunch next day..lol). I work around the corner and have lunch here 2-3 times per week. Today I'm trying the grilled chicken lunch with salad and a side of beans ($10.99), a couple days ago I had the street tacos special for Monday ($1.09ea).. no kidding the best deal in town for sure.
I hope all surrounding locals in LP, industry and Hacienda Heights try this for themselves. They offer Uber eats and other delivery services.. we owe it to ourselves to have a great eatery like this...
Read moreFab. The food from here is just so good, a real down home type of good. My family frequents this place and I try to not repeat my orders but it is hard when what I've tried so far is on point so I end up wanting to go with something I had previously. Delicious menudo and pozole, bacon & eggs, beans, breakfast potatoes, coffee, machaca, caldos, chorizo, tacos ... name it , they got it and you won't be disappointed. I love the staff, there's been a a change sometime ago staff wise but my goodness it feels good to walk in and deal with friendly staff to really make it seem like your coming to visit a tia's house or something...
Read moreI’ve been dining at Cortez Brothers Restaurant for over 25 years, and I’m so glad to see that even with the new owners, the quality and authenticity of their food have stayed the same. Their tortas are second to none—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made every time. The restaurant has a true family-owned atmosphere, with friendly staff who treat you like part of the family. It’s rare to find a place that stays consistent for decades, and Cortez Brothers is one of those gems. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially locals, looking for authentic, home-style food with great...
