Sad to post a 1-Star review on a place I used to give top stars! We usually frequent the Lafayette House for dinner and spend alot of holidays there! (Easter, Mothers Day and Thanksgiving) went for Easter and total disappointment. To begin with, we were seated in the Tavern/Bar, right in front if the big screen TV and right against the actual bar! When I made my reservations, I clearly told them I did NOT want the Tavern. Who wants to spend Easter in a bar watching TV?!?! I requested a seat change. . To which I was told it was impossible. Ini overheard the hostess saying "what am I going to do with those freaking people". I even offered to stay in the Tavern but move to the booths, which 2 were empty. I was told they were Reserved. Then I went and looked in the dining room, there were 4 tables EMPTY!! I was told they were reserved for people with a handicap a d couldn't use stairs. I watched and these tables remained empty for over an HOUR! One table was seated in the hour and no one was handicapped or had issues walking!! Horrible treatment for people that frequent enough that the wait staff all know us!! Horrible treatment for customers in general. I will go to Perona Farm for now on

The restaurant itself is very nicely designed and decorated and a good spot for date night or nice family dinner. Service was excellent. We ordered French onion soup, burgers, short ribs and crab cake. French onion soup and short ribs were very very good(10/10). Burgers and crab cakes were okay(7/10). The restaurant is very big. The menu has a lot to offer. I will go back and try other dishes.

A great, cozy spot lunch after a nice walk shopping around the village. Warm, casual atmosphere down at the Tavern. Not a huge or fancy menu but the meals are hearty and taste like they came out of your own kitchen. Great soups as well!

Whether you want a somewhat formal dining experience or a casual one, this place does both!

The front entrance is for the more formal experience while the tavern downstairs (enter through the back) is a nice very warm quality cozy casual atmosphere with bar seating, table seating or booths.

They also have an outdoor dining area next to the tavern entrance that is perfect for larger groups who want to have the same quality food as the upstairs but the casual atmosphere of the tavern.

While the food is excellent, I wouldn't consider necessarily consider it "gourmet" fare" although the quality and care they put into their food is well above average.

Their chef(s)? present and produce many delicious dishes, some hearty portions and have something for everyone and often specials both in the food and drink menus.

Their staff work hard to make sure you're satisfied and happy with your meal and truly go to great lengths to ensure your dining experience is great.

The prices are, like all restaurants on the incline but you absolutely get what you pay for. (I ordered a dozen raw oysters and they were fresh, delicious and very reasonably priced at $25)

Cocktails and specialty drinks can get pricey (I like a Grey Goose martini or two myself) but regardless of the top shelf vodka, I wasn't shocked by the sticker price, and it wasn't watered down or swapped for a cheaper vodka that I believe would be noticable to me. I've had it happen, just not here.

Overall I don't generally give five stars to any place unless they really impressed me, so hopefully that carries some weight here. I've been a customer of the Lafayette house for decades and they continue to impress me with their consistency, quality and kindness whether I drop in for a beer and app or sit down for a meal with friends and family.

Note:. Some nights the tavern downstairs have live music, trivia and other entertainment, you might benefit to check before going if you just want a quiet or...

  • update! I spoke to somebody at the restaurant regarding my experience and the subpar quality dinner that my wife and I had. The young lady I spoke with stated that she would take my name and number, speak with the restaurant management and chefs and that someone would be reaching back out to me to discuss a result. That was close to 2 weeks ago. I don't think I will be going back based on this experience unfortunately.* It is with a heavy heart that I have to write this review. My wife and I love the Lafayette house but upon our last visit the food was not great. I order the same thing every time I go, which is not terribly often as it is a nice treat for my wife and I to visit this restaurant. That said, the chicken parm was either undercooked or just not prepared correctly, as it wasn't staying in crispy like it usually is. This time around it was a full, thick and tough chicken breast. My wife's was cooked exactly the same way. I called the restaurant and spoke with an employee who listened to my concern, took down my name and number and promised to return my call with some feedback. Our bill was well over $100 so I very much would have liked them to correct it by offering some type of remedy, unfortunately that did not happen. They were apologetic but that certainly doesn't replace the lackluster meal that we paid handsomely for. I may go back and try some other things as there were quite a few things on the menu that I think I would enjoy but I don't think I'll be getting chicken parmesan going forward.the restaurant staff is amazing and the service is always impeccable, we also love the fact that the ambiance is very cozy and inviting. Like I said though, I do wish they would have gotten back to us to offer us some sort of Remedy as I hate to think that this will be the lingering impression of...

Terrible Mothers Day Experience.

I frequently come here, which is why I was incredibly disappointed in the dinner. I was not going to write a review, however even after the manager tried to make it better... they didn't.

For our 3pm reservation for a 2 hour seating: They were out of short ribs and the Mahi Mahi and were still charging extra for the prime rib even though that was the only other beef option. We ordered the strawberry and candied pecan salad with goat cheese.. but they were out of goat cheese and pecans (which we only found out after getting the salad) We didn't get the rolls with the salad because they ran out and when we finally did get them (1 hour later) the buser tossed the basket on the table with no butter or plates 1.5 hours later we still had no dinner (at a 2 hour seating) We asked to speak with a manager who agreed yes you won't be charged extra for the prime rib considering they ran out of the other options and she would cover our drinks and another round for the wait and lack of everything. We asked why the coffee was extra with dessert and not included (we heard from another table) and she said oh no we will cover that absolutely, we are going to make this right on your check. Coffee comes with no creamer. Asked the waitress for creamer ..10 minutes and cold coffee later we received creamer. Check comes and they charged us for coffee and only took off 1 drink of 3 drinks. We speak to a different manager again and explain we were told drinks were on the house and the coffee. Check comes back again... 1 of 3 drinks was covered and this time so was the coffee.

Incredibly disappointed. Would not return for a high volume event. Should have been handled better...
