Southside Diner — Restaurant in Lafayette

IVE BEEN COMING TO THIS LOCATION ON VETERANS MEMORIAL FOR A WHILE NOW, AND IT USE TO BE AMAZING. THE GIRLS ARE ALWAYS SO KIND AND FRIENDLY. ESPECIALLY THE MANAGER LADY WITH THE BLACK HAIR SHES ALWAYS THERE AROUND 6am. SHES THE BEST AS FAR AS CUSTOMER SERVICE. WHERE THE PROBLEM COMES IN AT IS WHEN THE COOK DOESNT TAKE PRIDE IN HIS OR HERS JOB. THEY WOULD PUSH ANYTHING OUT THAT WINDOW JUST TO SAY THEY DID THEIR JOB. PEOPLE WORK CERY HARD FOR THEIR MONEY AT LEAST I DO, SO AFTER A LONG DAYS WORK I SHOULD BE ABLE TO COME AND GET GREAT FOOD. I DIDNT ASK THE COOK TO APPLY FOR THAT JOB. I USUALLY GET THE CHICKEN & WAFFLE . IN THE PAST I HAD TO ASK THE MANAGER CAN SHE PLEASE HAVE THE COOK TAKE THEYRE TIME AND GIVE ME NICE PIECES OF CHICKEN AND SHE DID AND IT WAS GOOD. THEN I NOTICED THAT AFTER I STOPPED ASKING HER TO MAKE SURE THE COOK PUT OUT QUALITY FOOD. IT WENT RIGHT BACK TO BEING VERY BAD. I PLACED MY LAST ORDER ON 05/22/2025 NEEDLESS TO SAY I WILL NEVER BE BACK. THE CHICKEN THEY ALLOWED TO COME OUT OF THAT KITCHEN WAS SOMETHING NOT EVEN A 2yr OLD WOULD EAT. GRANTED ALOT OF ELDERLY PEOPLE FREQUENT THIS LOCATION AND MAYBE YOU CAN GIVE THEM THAT BUT IM NOT BUYING IT. IF I WANTED CHICKEN FRIES I WOULD HAVE WENT TO BURGER KING. IT WAS SO SMALL AND BAD TO WHERE IF I TOOK THE BREADING OFF IT WOULD BE LESS THAN A CHICKEN NUGGET. AS AN ADULT I SHOULDNT HAVE TO KEEP ASKING TO MAKE SURE THEY PUT OUT DECENT FOOD THEY SHOULD ALREADY KNOW THIS. ITS JUST HEARTBREAKING BECAUSE THIS WAS MY FAVORITE BREAKFAST SPOT ON MY SIDE OF TOWN. I WISH I COULD INCLUDE THESE PICTURES I TOOK. BUT I POSTED IT ON MY FACEBOOK PAGE AND I DIDNT REALIZE HIW MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME THING. ITS JUST SAD. Came into an empty restaurant w only two tables attended. Was sat by door. Had to keep coat on to eat. (Cold and drafty by the door) that was ignored. Orders are skimpy. Asked for eggs a certain way, instead they cooked them their way and tried to sell them on me after they were already done. (Gave me over easy, I asked for hard boiled. ) Then instead of asking if they can do something else to substitute, they walked away. The sausage tasted like what I’d assume to be dried out horse meat. 2nd time eating here and both times we’ re displeased. Gave it a 2nd try because we figured it could have been a fluke. Waitress saw clearly that my plate wasn’t being eaten off of yet never came to ask if she could get me anything. Then drops check off and says no rush. As she lunged the check from about two feet away from our table then bolted off before the check hit the table. Clearly she meant the opposite. Never have we been to a family diner and had such lacking servers in both serving and manors. Non personable behavior. The ultimate ending is when it’s time to pay, the machine then flashes several diff tip amounts to choose from, seemingly having no option but to leave a tip, they don’t tell u that u can scroll down to hit the hidden “no tip” button. Normally I tip the servers AND the cooks. I typically stay long enough to make sure the cooks cash tip gets taken back to them. Before I leave. And typically my tips equal more than the check itself. We have been to this restaurant plenty of times. This past weekend I took my children here to have a nice brunch (it was around 12 pm). After being seated with myself and my four kids, we waited about 10 minutes before my 2 year old daughter began to get fussy. She was making some noise and began to bang silverware on the table, as she Always does. In the meantime, there are 4 waitresses going back and forth from the bar to the tables. What appeared to be the manager was up front counting money and the checks at the bar, and taking people's payments. Not one waitress came up to us. I told my oldest daughter after about 18 minutes of sitting there that I would give it one more minute and then we were leaving. There were multiple times where the waitresses and manager/owner made eye contact with me and yet no one came around. After 23 minutes of sitting there with absolutely nothing, not even drinks, we got up and left. I was VERY upset, as I had to amuse 4 young children with whatever I could so that we could wait for nothing. All the waitresses were young, and even the one who seated us never came back to the table. It seemed like utter chaos for them at this time, even though one had time to be on her phone and another gathered her things and left.
