I’m not sure how or why this place has gotten worse every time we go, but it has gotten to the point where we won’t be going back. We have done lunch there many times and it’s always a ghost town on weekends, so we end up there to skip the crowds elsewhere. Their food has always been mediocre, but I usually get tacos and she’s fine with a salad. This time we noticed a change in the outdoor seating area and a new menu (with a few misspelled words, which is never a good sign). No more tacos, so I made the mistake of getting the only other thing that sounded good, fish and chips. My wife got a salad as usual. Before the meals arrived we were served 2 nearly flat Cokes with minimal ice. My fish and chips arrived quickly, probably too quickly, and consisted of 3 tiny frozen breaded fish triangles that were barely warm inside and the consistency was “mushy”. I’m guessing they didn’t microwave them long enough. The fries were marginal at best. My wife’s wedge salad showed up nearly 15 minutes later, which I’m guessing was probably the server forgetting that there were patrons at the restaurant. The wedge looked like they threw it together in 5 seconds and flooded the plate with dressing to make it look fancy. The dressing was dripping off the plate on all sides. It wasn’t great! We were never offered water, soda refills or asked how our meal was. Needless to say, after going there for years, the time has come to...
Read moreOverall, the experience was medicore at best.
All the bread up to the warmed sour dough was stale. Some of the menu items didn't make sense (bbq chicken wings at a french restaurant?) and it was really disappointing for such a pricey restaurant to give the menu in 5 parts split amongst the entire party.
There seemed to be very few people in the restaurant and service was so slow. I asked for water and I watched the waiter talk to a guy for almost 10 minutes. I sent my partner to get me water from the bar. We stared the waiters down for minutes before they took our orders.
In their defense, some of their food was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my raspberry duck, the scallops were buttery and perfectly cooked, and my party members were impressived with the size of the steaks. Definitely American portions of French food. They were also very accomodating in changes to the dishes.
The atmosphere was overall nice. The murals were done by a famous painter who died in the early 60's which gives some perspective on the decore. It is definitely quirky, vintage. My qualms were the odd pink lighting that felt minimizing against the hot pink walls, the random flatscreen playing sports outside, and the stink of mildew (reasonable for an old house on the coast).
I would not go here again. It was $50 a person for a mediocre experience that could have been much better spent at a better put...
Read moreA locals favorite! Please don't overlook this eclectic, fun place to eat. The food is always delicious and the drinks are always amazing. Service is different here, but in a good, no great, way. It's not a star restaurant, but it's miles above any NICE chain place. It's different but in all the good ways and I can't recommend this place enough to anyone even passing through Laguna!(wouldn't that technically be worth a star from the tire company?) P.s. I'm from Las Vegas and live there, but every time I'm fortunate enough to visit Laguna Beach for a long weekend, Dizz's is always our first "go out" place to eat, and was our first sit-down since the pandemic started and they are super clean and safe and I again highly recommend them for a delicious pandemic sit down dinner. Outdoor seating is an...
