Golden Corral Buffet & Grill — Restaurant in Lake Charles

I would give a “0” STAR RATING if it allowed for "ZERO STARS". I was not impressed with this place one bit. The only employee that I would give a 5 STAR RATING to is the host at the entrance that collected our payment. She was very friendly. I was expecting the same atmosphere, food selection, and service that I experience EVERY TIME I dine at the Golden Corral in Beaumont, Tx.

We arrived at the Lake Charles Golden Corral at 11:30 am. After we were seated, we made our way to the buffet section. The first 3 plates that I grabbed were "filthy". When I informed a staff member that there were dirty plates mixed in with the clean plates, she just looked at me (WITH AN ATTITUDE) like I was annoying her and walked away.

Next, It was only a little after 11:30 am, and the trays and pans in many areas of the buffet section were "empty" (No Food). I asked one of the staff members behind the counter, when was the food going to be replenished in that area, and his reply (WITH AN ATTITUDE) was, "well, we are working on it, and I'm not sure when the food will be ready". A little "people skills" training is in order here. A simple, "Sir, we will have the food out as soon as possible" would have been just fine with me.

When the food was finally replenished on the buffet, it was "COLD" when we ate it. That tells me that the food was sitting in the back for a period of time before it was placed out under a heat lamp on the buffet. (Food that is freshly prepared should not be "cold" when it is placed out on the buffet table).

Finally, I had to ask our server TWICE for drink refills, and it took her almost 20 minutes to refill our drinks.

I'll NEVER dine at THIS (Lake Charles) Golden Corral ever again. Don't waste your money dining at this place. If you really want to dine at a Golden Corral, and have a good overall experience, make the trip to the Golden Corral in Beaumont, Tx. - You won't be...

I hadn’t eaten at a Golden Corral since the early 1980’s. When our local one was built 3 years ago it was damaged by hurricanes almost immediately, then Covid restrictions hit. Last year I had a stroke and didn’t get out much. Today I was finally able to get to Golden Corral/Lake Charles! I was not disappointed. It’s Spring Break and I took 3 grandkids, aged 11-13. Knowing it’s impossible for all 3 to agree on a place to eat, I was hoping they would enjoy the buffet. Between the 4 of us we ate from the taco/nacho bar, the hamburger bar, pizza, fried chicken, fried okra, French fries, onion rings, and hot rolls. At the end of the meal there was nothing left but chicken bones and a pile of napkins! Everyone agreed that all our selections were very good. All the food was hot and all the fried foods were crispy. The kids loved the burgers on the yeast rolls. The desert bar was well stocked and we were all drooling over the brownies, but by the end of the meal, we were too full to try them. They looked beautiful though. The staff were courteous and patient dealing with the kids. Our waitress was as attentive as possible with a busy noon time section. Our drink glasses were never empty. Meals and drinks for the 4 of us was only $41. This was an outstanding value for the money. If it wasn’t a 45 minute drive to get there, I would be hitting this place several times a month. Super impressed by the absolutely amazing service and experience. From the moment we walked in the door, we were catered to and well taken care of. The young lady at the counter welcomed us and took care of our order. Mr. Joseph, who is, by far, the best server I have ever had met us at the counter and brought us to our table. We never had to ask for a refill, he was on top of everything. We never had a plate that was left for more than a couple seconds that needed to be picked up. While at the buffet, if we were looking for something, one of the cooks on the line would notice we were looking around and would ask what we needed. They would then assist us in getting it or immediately call back to the kitchen for it. This happened a few times with different cooks, so I could tell it was a total team effort. It wasn't just one or two wrong hard, they were all working hard and shining bright! Everything was so clean. A little bit food was dropped near the buffet and a server immediately swept it up.
