I've been traveling to Louisiana the last 5 years, absolutely love it here. Wanted to try some southern/soul food plate lunches, never have before, or greens Saw The Kitchen, and Tuesday was Oxtails..I was all in Got two plates.. just for me and my dog, made 3 meals from it, and I'm a big eater Mustard greens are incredible, bit of spice, Loved them. Smothered cabbage amazing Black eyed peas and red beans really good too Rice is really really tasty, one had the oxtail gravy on it, other was basically their plane, I'd say, dirty rice, so yummy The oxtail is incredible, falls off the bone The girl helping me recommended the fried pork chop over the smothered pork chop.. it's the best I've ever had I think, just amazing Best cornbread tooooo I'll be back for sure, gotta try the chicken next time

Delicious home style southern food and a friendly atmosphere. We went there on Wednesday and ordered fried chicken. It was so good. The chicken was juicy and tender, with extra crispy batter. The sides were very nice too. Definitely try out corn bread dressing. It's one of our favorites.

The food was decent,it the customer service I didn’t like. I was new to the area and was unfamiliar about what I could get and not get. I only order vegetables. The first few times I went there , I received dessert and bread when ordering from the male owner. But it was a different story when ordering from the female owner. Before I could place my order she let me know( the male owner heard as well) there was no bread and no dessert.....I felt unwelcome because I was not a regular. I understand that you can run out of certain items on your menu at certain types of businesses. It just depends on who the owners are.I felt it was because I only order vegetables. I wasn’t spending enough monies to “ get bread or dessert. My opinion and it’s the only one that counts.....Different cultures renders different results...But the food was decent. I didn’t go back after the last experience. We reap what we sow.....it’s not about the monies, it’s how well you treat others. That makes your...

I purchased about 30.00 worth of food from The Kitchen. I am born and raised in the south so I know good food. I wanted to try southern soul food, this place had great reviews. I noticed a few reviews mentioned bad customer service. I overlooked those comments and ordered. I ordered my food through Waitr app. I was called and notified the they were out of dark meat and two of the sides I ordered. The man who notified me was rude and rushed me to choose a different meat and other sides. Once my food arrived. The cornbread dressing, rice and gravy, Mac and cheese and string beans were NOT GOOD. The sweet tea was not good. My husband and I threw the sides away. The fried chicken was delicious. The chicken fried steak tasted like it came from a previously frozen pack, not homemade. I would never eat here again. Save yourself the money and bad customer service experience. There are way better places in Lake Charles to eat good southern food with good...
