You know you're truly "up north" when you make your first stop at Tasty Treat in Lake City. For our family, this isn't just a pit stop—it's a beloved tradition that marks the start of our getaway and a highlight of our entire year. It’s a place that perfectly captures the charm and spirit of this little town. What makes Tasty Treat so special? The food, of course! From their delicious burgers to their incredible soft-serve ice cream, everything tastes like summer. But for us, the real star of the show is the joy it brings. Our one-and-a-half-year-old absolutely lights up when we pull into the parking lot. The way they excitedly point to the colorful building and then to their little cup of ice cream is a memory we will cherish forever. Tasty Treat isn't just a place to grab a bite; it's a staple of the Lake City community. It’s where you see families laughing, friends catching up, and tired travelers finding a moment of pure bliss. The service is always friendly and fast, and the atmosphere is exactly what you hope for in a small-town eatery—warm, welcoming, and genuine. If you’re ever in the area, do yourself a favor and make a stop. It's more than just a meal; it's a cherished part of our journey and a tradition we hope to continue for many...

First, the line is nuts. Plan to wait 30 mins+ on the weekend in the summer. Also - worth it.
The portions are crazy and the prices for everything are so fair. Is this even real?!?!? Their namesake tshirts are $15. But the food prices are even better. We got fried cauliflower on a recommendation from the group in front of us in line. It was $6 and a very healthy portion. We also got a chicken and cheese quesadilla. We got the full size for $11 and there were two full quesadillas! Everything was piping hot. We walked back to our cottage to eat and it was still too hot to hold when we got back. The ice cream is also delicious. I got the Rush Hour, Sea turtle and black raspberry chocolate chip. All were awesome but the black raspberry and sea turtle were my favs.
10/10 recommend and see why...
Read moreThese really are the largest cones in the north! I believe a size small flurry is 1 pint easily. That is four servings of ice cream if you are wondering. If in doubt, downsize. I have watched as shocked first-time tourists receive their food and cannot finish it. This is absolutely the best ice cream place in the entire Cadillac area. People drive from all around for the selection, size, price, and quality. They also accept all forms of payment, which is nice when you don’t carry cash. In addition, they have a wonderful food menu as well. You can call ahead for pickup at the side window to avoid the line. I wish there were more places like this and less chains in the world. Some of our favorites are the mudslide parfait, banana split, Slushees, flavor burst soft serve, Oreo flurry, dirty turtle sundae, and Michigan pothole hard...
