Clauta's Caribbean Shack — Restaurant in Lake City

I would love to have had the opportunity to share a great review, unfortunately I never was able to eat the great food I've heard about. A friend and I met there for lunch. She arrived 15 minutes before I did and had not yet ordered because it was so busy. Understandable, it's lunchtime on Friday. She was working all by herself and had apparently had a large to go order. No problem. As we tried to remain patient and wait our turn, a young man came in after I had been there 25 minutes (remember my friend had been there for 15 minutes before me). He spoke to her from behind us as she waited on the customer in front of us. My friend gets a very generous 1hour lunch, however it is now 12:45 and it's our turn and the woman behind the counter goes to to the back of the house, presumably to bring up more food. What happened next blows my mind. She starts dishing out the order of the young man from behind us. We're thinking maybe, just maybe he had a prepaid online order. Nope. She still needed and took payment at which point we walked out. If there was the option of 0 stars that's what I would give. No matter how good her food is, I will never know. This cafeteria style restaurant had "hot and ready" authentic Haitian food. The taste was excellent and I knew this was the truth when I bit into the JIROF in the epis! Clauta was very friendly and we were like 2 friends catching up -and this was my first time visiting. She had Oxtail, Legume, Curry Chicken, Griot, Stewed Pork, White Rice, Brown Rice, Cabbage, Plantains (sweet and green) and Haitian Mac and Cheese all ready to go and I like that you pick and choose your main and sides how YOU like it. AND YES THERE WAS PLENTY OF SAUCE AVAILABLE! My wait was less than 10 minutes (only because I was on the phone getting my friend's order) and she also had a great variety of drinks to complement the food. I had Oxtail with brown rice/ sweet plantains and also the Legume with white rice/ cabbage. I brought the food home, both containers are empty, and there NO leftovers! We thoroughly enjoyed the food and will visit again when driving through Lake City. Haitian food is a labor of love and Clauta's Caribbean Shack will make you love Haitian food even more. This place deserves no more than 0 stars!!! I’m totally disappointed in this restaurant. On Friday the 17th of January, I ordered the curry goat. Mind you, I had eaten this particular meal about two years ago and it was delicious and tender. Her quality has definitely diminished. Anyhow, I called the owner after I had gotten home and tasted it. I expressed to her that the curry goat was tough and the rice was hard and not the quality I’ve gotten from her in the past. I asked her if she could replace it for something else. She told me to come back and we can see. So, I went back and instead of her hearing me out, she insisted that it was tender and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. She proceeded to dish out more of the meat to let me sample and stated that “it’s ok” and then she put some oxtail juice and a few bones on top to appease me. She refused to replace the entire meal. Don’t waste your time with this place….the owner is not interested in customer satisfaction😡. This meal was $17.79 - what a waste of my hard earned money!!! Never...
