Having heard of this Fu King place from a few friends, I recently visited on a Vero Beach to Tallahassee road trip. More of a "novelty" stop - I came for the Fu King T-Shirt as they say. And 4 of the Fu King T-Shirts I did purchase. Lucked out at $12.50 each by paying cash.
Met by a delightful young server, I asked for Combination Platter specials. On the road for several hours, I would rather eat in the car and not waste time dining in. Besides, I really did only make the detour off I-95 for the Fu King T-Shirts. That and a Fu King photo or two.
Order the number 10 I was told. Not much into the Chinese soft noodle craze, I accepted the suggestion and Subgum Lo Mein - along with pork fried rice and egg roll - it was. Subgum Lo Mein is a type of Cantonese Chinese soft noodle dish with one or more meats or seafood mixed with vegetables. I've never eaten this meal in my life before this Fu King visit.
Meals made "to-go" present challenges not found while dining at a restaurant. First, and foremost, is packing all that food into small containers. And - of course - eating on the road presents its own challenge. In this instance, Fu King packed everything up nice, included plenty of napkins, soy and duck sauce, along with a fortune cookie.
Food was pretty decent - the fortune cookie was no Fu King good. Not quite sure whether to call it stale or "plastic" in taste, but I've had better. Subgum Lo Mein had plenty of meat, seafood and vegetables. Fried rice and egg roll were the house brand. It's Chinese to go in ten minutes or less.
Clean restaurant and very polite staff. While waiting for my take-out, I used the restroom and found it to be very clean. This Fu King Chinese Restaurant is a strong 3-star choice that receives a bump to 4-stars because of the cleanliness and staff. I'm sure staff are asked quite often by tourists to take a photo or two outside under the Fu King restaurant sign. Sort of "I made the visit and bought the T-Shirt" novelty approach. On my visit, it was raining but the server didn't have an issue snapping a few photos.
Located behind the Winn-Dixie and next to a Stop N Go gas station, this Fu King place had plenty of parking and was easy to find on Main Boulevard in Lake City, Florida.

Read moreSo pretty disappointed I got the beef lo-main and the noodles are especially thin they remind me of almost like rice noodles or glass noodles definitely not lo main noodles the flavor to me is very soy sauce heavy so not much flavor just very salty so my son he bought the honey garlic chicken and it looks like they took sweet and sour chicken the fried chicken and they doused it in some honey and threw some sesame seeds on top it had absolutely zero garlic flavor we've never had honey garlic chicken in that form before it's always been more of a general tso's kind of chicken style but with honey and garlic and sesame seeds so I don't know if that's their take on it but it's definitely not where we've had the same consistency meals at other Chinese restaurants I will say that the wonton soup was a very big disappointment as well it was very bland and watered down I would say the broth is old and has been watered down I don't know for a fact but I ate it on the side of caution and decided to toss it the only thing I'd like to do is just leave it on a positive note because it was for the most part a very disappointed restaurant choice for us they're dumplings are very very good I appreciate that they actually fill them entirely with their meat and the flavor is consistent in there and even got a heavy garlic taste to it so I do like garlic a lot so I appreciate that and then my son absolutely left the rice and they're egg roll they came with his meal do I think we'll be back again no because from the looks of it it's just not what means our expectations and Chinese food. Another thing that was a big deciding factor for me and I know it's very small but it's the little things in the world that count their fried noodles are absolutely not fried noodles they are store-bought still like chips and I am a strange one that will buy those 5 to 10 bags at a time but only if they are authentic fried noodles so that was a very very big...
Read moreHave tried this many times since we moved here six months ago and actually longer as that was the first Chinese restaurant we tried as we were house hunting. Before I give my review, I have probably ordered wonton soup in at least 20 different states and the soup I got tonight was absolutely the worst in hundreds I have had over decades. The broth was the lightest, the wontons the smallest and the filling could barely see and it was doughy around it, usually the filling has to be cut in down and eaten in multiple bites, not these. Then the noodles they serve with the soup are the worst and driest and where every other Chinese joint give you two bags for free, they charge you for the second bag. It was almost all broth with an inch of wontons on the bottom all around bad just bad. Their chicken wings are also horrible. Subgum lo mein is ok. Done with this place as there are two others that or just way better. I guess I have to ask, those that give this place good reviews have you ever been out of this state or better yet this city? This is...
