I went to Summer House just to grab a casual lunch, and it went as follows:
Atmosphere: This is a very nice establishment with indoor and outdoor seating. Although, I recommend sitting outside to get the full "Lake Life" experience. You can choose between an upper deck and a lower patio outside. I sat on the upper deck, and it was nice to feel the light breeze, breathe the fresh air, and of course, take in the beautiful lake view. 5 out of 5.
Service: The service was wonderful. I unfortunately do not know the name of my server, but he was very friendly with a professional demeanor and appearance. He checked in enough to ensure I was taken care of without checking in so much that it was pestering. 5 out of 5.
Food: Finally, I'll address the food as that's what's center stage here. I started with the cheese curds appetizer. Other places where you get cheese curds often make them with mostly breading and a little cheese and/or have them drenched in grease. That wasn't the case here. I got a big portion (enough for 3-4 people to snack on) of large, creamy curds with crispy, light breading that weren't overly greasy. They came with chives and ranch, and the taste was amazing. As a Wisconsin native, I can say these are some of the best I've had, and they should leave a great impression of one of this state's staple food items on the out-of-towners in the area. Next, I had the "Walleye Hoagie," a hoagie with Walleye, slaw, and a side of fries. Mine had too much slaw, and it overpowered the walleye, leaving me feeling like I was eating slaw on bread. The edges of the walleye were crispy and added some crunch, which was nice, but still left me disappointed. The fries were reminiscent of McDonald's fries, so I only had a few. I was expecting to get bar fries, which also left me disappointed. My order of cheese curds, the Walleye Hoagie, and a Diet Pepsi came to $35 before the tip. In my opinion, it was a bit too expensive for the food you get, but if you consider that the service and atmosphere are so good and that this is in a tourist destination, it makes it a little more reasonable.
Conclusion: I think Summer House is a wonderful place to have a great time with family and friends. If I would have ordered a different entree, this very well could have been a 5-star experience. All in all, the view, service, and atmosphere really exemplify what summer in Wisconsin is all about: taking the time to enjoy the...
Read moreThe Lake House Grill & Bar in Wisconsin Dells is a true gem, offering an experience that perfectly encapsulates the relaxed, scenic beauty of the area. If you're looking to extend those quintessential lake vibes, this is undoubtedly the spot.
The first thing that strikes you upon arrival is the amazing view of Lake Delton. Whether you're dining indoors or on their outdoor seating, the expansive and serene lake vista creates an immediate sense of calm and vacation bliss. It's the kind of view that makes your meal feel like a special occasion, even if it's just a casual lunch.
Now, let's talk about the food, starting with a Wisconsin classic: the cheese curds. The Lake House Grill & Bar's take on this regional staple is nothing short of exceptional. They use genuinely local cheese, which you can taste in every bite – it's fresh, squeaky, and full of flavor. What truly sets them apart, however, is the batter. It's applied with the perfect amount of batter, thin enough to let the quality of the cheese shine through, yet providing that satisfying crispy exterior. These are, without a doubt, some of the best cheese curds you'll find in the Dells.
But the culinary delights don't stop there. A particular standout is their steak sandwich, which deserves a serious shout-out. This isn't just any steak sandwich; it features a seriously great piece of steak between a bun. The meat is tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, showcasing a commitment to quality ingredients that elevates a simple sandwich into something truly memorable.
In summary, the Lake House Grill & Bar delivers on all fronts: a stunning view, delicious local specialties executed flawlessly, and a menu with hidden (and not-so-hidden) culinary stars. For anyone wanting to keep the lake vibes going while enjoying fantastic food, this is an absolute must-visit in...
Read moreMy wife and I moved to Baraboo last year and found this place with perfect views and great food. However, for fathers day we both ordered our favorite meal, the Turkey club and cheese curds. Curds were amazing but the turkey club was not like it was last year. The bread was barely buttered and not toasted very well (seemed to be smaller than last year as well) and there was no dijonaise on the sandwich just mayo. We loved the sandwich so much last year that I basically perfected it while they are closed during the winter season and made it about once a month.
Im guessing it could be an off night or maybe new cooks so I don't want to give a terrible review or say we won't be back because we will be. The food was great last year and this is the first time we have ordered since. So we will be back and hopefully the food will be just as amazing as we remembered it to be last year.
Update We just went back to have lunch and ordered the turkey club again. It again was very disappointing. We ordered a pretzel and that came out hot and was good, but when he dropped it off he asked if we wanted our meals right away...so I told him if it was already for us to bring it out (as I didn't want the fries to get cold). He came right back out with the food and the fries were already cold. Turkey club is still not what it used to be and to top it all off they now charge a 1.5% fee for any card transactions!
Very disappointed in this place as we used to recommend it to everyone, especially since my wife works in the Dells she constantly has people from out of town recommend places to eat. Sadly, we cannot in good conscience recommend this...
