I ordered a large gourmet style pizza with mushrooms and italian sausage for delivery. The young lady on the phone repeated my order back to me VERBATIM and we agreed on the price. When the delivery driver arrived at my house and we took our pizza in, we instead had a thin crust pizza with mushrooms and italian beef. When I called back the young lady on the phone agreed to replace my pizza for the difference, even though she claimed she repeated the order back to me as it was delivered. Problem #1. She can't even listen properly.
Problem #2 they wanted me to return the pizza we had already waited an hour and a half for, when my CORRECT pizza came one hour and a half later. Three hours total for pizza and they wanted the first one back.
Problem #3 After letting them know that I was placing an order at another Beggars and making sure the owner didn't own any of THOSE, he stated dryly - all Beggars are the same. Essentially sealing the deal of his ignorance of customer service. If people can't take orders properly, when hearing them, they shouldn't be answering phones. There isn't anyone on Earth that would confuse thing crust with deep dish, and Italian SAUSAGE with BEEF.
When I asked to speak to the manager, someone with very limited understanding about customer service, and making things right with the general public got on the phone. Instead, I'm spending the almost $40 to order ANOTHER pizza from another Beggars location, instead of him keeping me as a customer. This location is at 103rd and Halsted, and I'm noticing that they aren't doing very well in general as far as reviews go.
I'm not a fan of people having no problem taking money from the community members of Roseland/West Pullman but providing no real customer service to support their business. If you have options and can order from the Blue Island Beggars, do...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI must say, after years of patronage to this Beggar's location, this will be my last time ordering from here. After waiting over TWO hours (delivery) for a medium sausage pizza, fries & 2-liter soda, our order arrived wrong (a cheese pizza opposed to a sausage). We immediately called the restaurant and spoke to the manager on duty (Jesse) in the presence of the delivery guy to clarify the problem. Jesse, the manager, said he would discount the order to rectify the problem. Fine, this phone call was placed at 5:10p and our second delivery came at 6:48 WRONG AGAIN! At this point my children are starving & I am slightly to above annoyed. I call Jesse back to explain to him that the pizza is fine but the fries & 2-liter soda are now missing. Jesse's response to me was, "I'm sorry there is nothing I can do because I've already discounted you half off." I then asked Jesse, "how was I discounted when this SECOND INCORRECT ORDER is MORE than the original order?" The phone was silent. I explained to him how much my children & I love Beggar's & how we only wanted a decent meal after a long day of school & work. Again, Jesse was silent. Due to Jesse's lack of regard for the restaurant's mistake, I didn't even desire THEIR service any longer. I explained to Jesse that customer service is so important & how aweful he made me feel as a patron but Jesse still could not offer any words of amenity. I never read this location's reviews until this situation (never had a reason to) but I completely understand what the "people" are saying about Beggar's Pizza's (103rd & Halsted) customer service. To whomever this concerns, please speakto your managers or maybe just Jesse about the importance of customer service. I am the proprietor of a local business and will never patron this establishment again, and will encourage others in this area to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's been maybe 8 or so years since I've been to a beggars Pizza. Lately I've been hankering for traditional Chicago pizza as I've grown tired of the whole neopolitan craze so I decided to try the Beggar's pizza out in Roseland. It took them awhile to make my small order (about an hour.) First off, the smell is fantastic. The fatty oil, cheese, Italian herbs & greasy meat combines for an aroma that is unmatched. My place smells like a delectable pizzeria now & I'm perfectly fine with that. The cheese is perfectly browned with almost every slice having the same pattern that get lighter towards the center. No hipsters in sight either. As Beggar's slogan goes, they lay it on thick so the ingredients are in no short supply. Every bite is like eating a small cake. It is absolutely packed with flavor. You're able to taste evey single ingredient. This is what I'm talking about!
As far the Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ beef...it was ok. There's a ton of beef with the BBQ sauce smeared on the inside of the bread. I was somewhat expecting the beef to be tossed or baked with the sauce which would've been much better. It's Sweet Baby Ray's so it's an easy automatic win on the sauce & the beef is decently seasoned. The french bread where the beef lays its head is soft, warm & fills you up.
Overall, there's a reason why Beggar's has been around for 45 years. It's a solid Chicago staple that is almost never a miss. The pizza is great, won't break the bank & you get bang for your buck. The other stuff on the menu is mostly hits with little variances here & there. With my faith in pizza restored, it's time for me to take a nap as the itis is overwhelming at...
