Stopped in this place on a Saturday to place an order for 2 breast and fries. This was the only Harold’s that I ordered from religiously because they rarely disappointed, plus I like their fries and batter. The time is around 430/5pm. The man tells me it’ll be 15/20 minutes. I sit on the bench and wait willingly, 20 minutes passes. I go back to the window and ask for an update and he says “he still ain’t got to it yet, give it another 10/15 he’ll drop it right now.” Keep in mind there are 2 cooks behind and I don’t which he the man is referring to. 10 minutes later a young lady walks in to start her shift and relieve the man at the cash register, by this time there are at least 10 people checking on orders and barely any food going out and the food that is going out is mostly wings even people who have ordered within the last 10-20 minutes. Puzzled, now I have to get back in line and get another update because the amount of people waiting has increased significantly. Not only that the cooks and the male cashier are exchanging words with each other and at this point they are on the verge of fist fighting each other. I get to be window and ask the young lady about my order and she didn’t bother asking she just gave me a general “give it 20 minutes” answer. The chicken is good but not worth me waiting my precious time on this earth good. I request a refund and the girl smacks her lips and asks me what did I order and I tell her and she gives me cash back in the amount of the food before taxes. I looked at her and asked “since when do you withhold the taxes on an order that hasn’t been fulfilled.” She opened the register back up and start yelling “I don’t even care here take yo lil funky change, so I don’t even care da fuq?” Gladly my dear just know I wasn’t leaving without and since this day I have not patronized this or any Harold’s chicken since. I am big on customer service, if it’s not there...
Read moreI've been a chicago resident for 30 years. I just want to acknowledge that before I leave a comment. Today while I was at Harold's on 105th I watched an interaction between Harold's employee (male) and two woman. The customers asked when the number 20 order was called if it was the fish dinner or the chicken dinner to which the employee stated its number 20. They asked again and he replied with the same condescending response. I remember when customers service was about talking to people with respect and not the same attitude or means of communication you use at home. The customers response was "this is why it's hard to support black businesses " and to be clear I wouldn't support a black, white, hispanic, cuban, trinidadian restaurant either if it displayed this type of customer service.
The truth of the matter is you provide a service of washing, prepping, cleaning my food, cooking it to degree that it is safe to consume follow by giving it to me in exchange that is respectful. Since you can no longer abide by that agreement I will do all of these duties myself. The establishment response will be to first raise prices to account for the loss in my presence. When they can increase no more they downsize staff and require limited staff to complete the same amount of work for same salary. When this can no longer because workers burn out the business model folds.
We either need each other or we don't need each...
