Visited D&D’s Place for the first time. Verdict: BEST Donuts I’ve ever had. For starters, a good donut should not fill you with remorse or fear of becoming diabetic. A good donut strikes a savory balance between the soft doughy butteriness of the bread and just the right amount of glaze. In that respect, D&D’s hits the center of the bullseye. Add to that the fact that their fruit glaze (I tried strawberry, raspberry, and citrus) is made with real fruit, and you’ve got a donut worthy of the titles “Crowd Favorite” and “Best Classic Donut” earned at Donut Fest Chicago. This isn’t your run-of-the -mill news anchorer award either. This locally owned and operated small Southside Chicago business went toe-to-toe with other Chicago juggernauts like Stan’s and Do-Rite Donuts in Chicago’s pastry Mecca (Wicker Park). Bottom line: I’m no food critic. I’m just a very satisfied 1st-time patron who discovered another of Chicago’s many food gems and fell in love at first bite. If you’re looking for the kind of donut that transports you to the golden age of donut purity (before all the crazy ingredients and food-as-art started ruining donuts) then look no further that D&D’s Place at 8324 S. Kedzie Avenue in Chicago. While there, show some love to the owners of this fine establishment. They’ll be more than happy to bless your day with their amazing donuts and lovely personalities. Their donuts are truly a blessing to donut lovers everywhere. Next time, I’ll be sure to try their HUGE award winning apple fritter, and that won’t be my last visit, either. Many blessings D&D’s! Thanks for a wonderful experience today. You...
Read moreYou have not tasted a donut until you have tasted one here. You have never felt so welcomed into an establishment as you are warmly welcomed by the lively and lovely hostess who greets you with true love and kindness and proudly displays true christian love. My favorite are their yeast donuts ( the base of most of what seems to be the majority of the chef's confections.) My absolute favorites are the ginormormous, Texas sized, apple in every bite fritters and the apple filles donuts. By the way those filled donuts are misnamed because the donuts are almost like cups for their delectable "ifillings" that sit above the donus like scoops of ice cream or a banana float. Also, do you hate that yucky bavarian cream filing? I even hate the smell of those bacarian/ boston creme donuts. Well, I did until the chef's beautiful wife and front woman of the shop sweetly as usual talked me into trying one. Oh my goodness they are delicious- now! They are too real ! Their glazes are made from REAL fruit! They also have a banana pudding donut. I kid you not!!! When I say go ,GO! Fair warning; YOU WILL NEVER GO...
