After years of driving past El Rey del Taco & Burritos, I finally decided to stop in and now I’m wondering why I didn’t visit sooner. The place has a casual, no-frills vibe that immediately makes you feel comfortable, like you're walking into a neighborhood spot that’s been serving locals for generations. The service was fast and friendly; they treated me like I had been coming there for years. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, take your time, and just enjoy good, honest food.
I grabbed a mineral water to refresh myself and ordered two sopes, one al pastor and one chicken and they hit the spot perfectly. Each sope was a golden, crispy masterpiece. The base was thick yet still had a tender bite once you got past the crunchy edges, soaking up just enough of the juices without getting soggy.
The al pastor was packed with flavor, smoky, a little sweet from the pineapple, and seasoned beautifully with hints of achiote and spices that danced on the tongue. The pork was juicy and tender, with caramelized bits that gave a satisfying chew. The chicken sope was equally delicious: the chicken was shredded finely, moist, and tasted like it had been simmered in a rich broth before being grilled to finish. Both were generously topped with cool crema, crumbled queso fresco, crisp lettuce, and fresh salsa that added a pop of heat and brightness.
The smell alone, griddled masa, seasoned meats, fresh herbs was enough to make me feel like I had stepped into a family kitchen. Each bite brought a sense of homey comfort, reminding me of backyard cookouts and street food stalls in Mexico.
If you’ve ever driven past El Rey del Taco & Burritos and wondered if you should stop, don’t hesitate. It’s the kind of spot that quietly serves up some of the best comfort food around. I’ll...
Read moreWe called and placed an order saying we wanted fluatas de pollo asado and a burrito de pollo asado and instead we got this. We though the fluatas looked like carne asada because of how burnt it is but when we opened it, they were pollo guisado that was dry. The burrito was steak and when they said they’d exchange it they called me when I was almost there and told me to bring the food, that had been sitting out in our store for about 30 mins, back to get our items refunded. Unfortunately I couldn’t because my break was about to be over and my coworker was frustrated and just ordered from a different place. The person on the phone also sounded like she was done working there or she didn’t know the menu....
Read moreCame her for a quick bit to eat and left unsure of eating my food. When i walked in the attendant did not have her mask on and there was another woman sitting inside with no mask. Apparently they don't take the publics health and safety very seriously here. They also have windows around where the food is cooked but they covered them with whit plastic so you cant see in which makes you wonder what they're trying to hide. The food was good, honestly i would have left after seeing two people without masks, but i was on lunch for work and would not have had any food if I didn't get anything from here but i do not think i...
