King Gyros — Restaurant in Lake Township

This place is in the right price range for the Chicago Staples. I've had most the menu and I find that the quality of their gyro, chicken, jim shoo, exceeds the price. Outside of the quality of the bread for the italian beef, most the menu is on Maxwell's or higher level. I gave the food 5 stars because places like Ricobene is considered the "greatest" sandwich, while King Gyro has never made a bad sandwich.

Service is trash. The guys are either rude or friendly to the point of disrespectful. You definitely feel like you are in the hood, which is relative to the individual, but they are open all times of day. Fred and Jack's is often better quality, but they are so damn slow they mine as well not exist. Two different Maxwell's are nearby and though they make somethings better and have menu options with a different variety, King's quickness of service and consistency of their sandwich really grows on you to where you have to force yourself to check out other choices nearby.

The worst thing about them is that there is no other option for sides and they definitely could afford to invest in the building and atmosphere. Also, biggest issue is for being in a black community and not at least hiring people from the community to clean up the lot or run the register though it's clearly family ran. I ordered a gyro combo with fries and a pop. The lamb/gyro meat is moist like it’s been cooked to perfection. However, I am a bit disappointed to see that there was one slice of tomato in the entire gyro, and it was the end of a tomato at that. Tomatoes are a staple for a gyro. I added special instructions for extra gyro sauce, lemon pepper on the fries, and selected Pepsi as my drink of choice. Igot the sauce. The fries had mild sauce on them and my preference was lemon pepper. Instead of Pepsi, I got an RC Cola. I feel like my order was made the way the person preparing it wanted to make it, which is uncool with me as I am spending my money, and the restaurant has the capability to make my order as requested. Absolute best service I’ve had anywhere in a long long time!! Was door dashing and it smelled so good I HAD to order a gyro plate. Made fresh of course so it was a min wait. I told them my delivery was 17 mins away so they said they would wait 15 mins to start making it.

I asked about cheese so they melted some mozzarella cheese on our pita bread. I was surprised to learn the plate came with a soda and bought another for only $1!

Super affordable and the quality of the food was 10/10! They offered lemon pepper seasoning on the fries and it was amazing! The fries were so crisp and crunchy in the outside and perfect on the inside!
