I recently stopped by Mega Carnitas on 63rd and Pulaski, and I have to say—it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, the aroma of freshly cooked carnitas was in the air, and it set the tone for an amazing meal. The place had a warm, welcoming vibe, and even though it was busy, the staff greeted everyone with genuine hospitality. It felt like one of those neighborhood gems where you know you’re about to eat something special.
I ordered the taco dinner with carnitas, and it was honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. The meat was beautifully cooked—crispy on the edges but juicy and flavorful throughout. You could tell they put love into the preparation. The tacos came with a generous portion of meat, fresh cilantro, onions, and a side of their signature salsa that added just the right amount of heat. Everything was balanced perfectly, and the handmade tortillas brought the whole dish together. For dessert, I treated myself to their flan, and wow—it was silky, rich, and just sweet enough without being overwhelming. It was the perfect way to end the meal.
What really stood out beyond the food was the customer service. The staff made sure I had everything I needed and checked in without being overbearing. Even though the place was packed, they kept things moving smoothly and made sure everyone felt taken care of. That kind of attentiveness made the experience feel more personal, like they truly value their customers. It’s not something you get everywhere, and it definitely made me want to come back.
And I did! On another visit, I tried their pozole, and it was just as amazing as the carnitas. The broth was flavorful and comforting, loaded with tender hominy and generous cuts of pork, with all the toppings served fresh on the side. It hit the spot, especially on a chilly day. Overall, Mega Carnitas is the real deal—authentic, delicious, and full of heart. If you’re anywhere near 63rd and Pulaski, do yourself a favor and stop by. You’ll be...

Read moreIt's been a while since I've found great carnitas like these. I drive about 40 minutes from where I live just for the carnitas. Other places have dry, flavorless or super greasy carnitas but not here. I've been going here for a couple of years and the trip has always been worth it.
They have amazing special packages that includes lots of other goodies and great for family meals. I'll admit the price per pound is a bit higher than other places, however, the flavor and selection of salsas is totally worth it.
They also have the Mexican coke bottle with a TWIST cap. It's perfection! Haven't been to restaurant that offers these.
My only critique would be the credit card fees - remember to bring cash to save on that.
I've always found parking in the street so this helps a lot when just picking up an order.
The staff has always been super friendly. I remember early the owner invited us to an evening BYOB event they had Friday nights pre-pandemic and had a blast. The last few times a young man that's at the register has always provided great customer service.
Best place I've found so far! Just wish I...
