My husband and I were looking for something quick to eat and he mentioned a place he had been to once before and that was here.
When you first get there it reminds you of a cute, old-fashioned breakfast spot. When we arrived, we were greeted and were able to seat ourselves. My husband and I chose to sit outdoors to enjoy the weather. It took about 15 minutes until someone came to take our order.
My husband ordered the egg breakfast with buttermilk pancakes, turkey bacon, and fresh fruit. He didn’t care for the eggs because they were scrambled too hard. He mentioned the rest of his breakfast was good in comparison.
Unfortunately, for my order I wasn’t so lucky. I ordered the strawberry and banana French toast (minus the banana) with eggs and turkey sausage. Firstly, my French toast was drowning in the strawberry syrup it comes in. It had fresh strawberries tossed into it as well but the syrup was so thick and heavy that it made them soggy. Also, the toast itself had an orange coloring to it and was a hard chew. My eggs were also scrambled too hard and I didn’t like that the cheese wasn’t melted into it better. My turkey sausage were slightly underdone so they didn’t taste good at all.
When it was time to pay, I choose apply pay. Before I was given my total, the waitress that served us asked how much we wanted to put down for the tip. I believe in tipping if I’ve received exemplary customer service and I don’t believe I did. I feel like it’s a way in pressuring customers to tip and that I don’t appreciate .
I’d definitely never return to this place, and you should think about anyplace else before...
Read moreNot overly impressed I went with 2 of my friends they go here every so often the cream of chicken soup I had was good but a little heavy on the salt I ordered there Chicago burger with sweet potatoe fries the menu stated that all there burgers are made of pure Angus beef but what I got was a plain small frozen hamburger pattie on an oversized bun I was already displeased with my fries because they came out burnt appearance wise the burger looked terrible so I pinched off a piece to taste it oh my disgusting no taste what so ever for an Angus burger so I had the waitress take the entire plate back when asked if I wanted to order something different I told her no a minute later I assume the manager walks over bullishly with the plate in hers hands as if she's gonna make me eat it and ask is this what you ordered I politely told her yes and that I don't want it I would assume that maybe her eyesight is bad not to notice that the presentation of this food was ridiculously hideous so why would I want to eat it I let my friends eat there meals and got a cold cut sandwich on the way to our movie what a waist of space and we had to go get a server so that we could get a food order in will never cross the doors of this...

The 'chopped steak' is really a hamburger patty, not like it useta be. Two eggs over-medium, French fries, pancakes, medium patty and coffee ran..OMG! $22. Yeesh. That's four? gallons of gas...(at Thornton's in Highland Park, anyway).
Waaay over my (retirement) budget. But. Once in while ya gotta go out.
Sat in the back room, was fairly quiet until just before I left. Traci the server was great, patient and friendly. Food arrived hot, like it should be. ☺ Music on their speakers was not too loud, thankfully. S'nice they have street-facing windows, you can see Life happening 😋.
They do have a few (4?) off-street parking spaces but parking can be challenging. Credit cards OK, I suggest a 20% tip. Note: the origin of that term is unknown but it translates as "To Insure Promptness". Waitstaff -depend- on tips, so don't shortchange 'em, eh?
Will visit again, but not soon...
There ya go,...
