I started eating at S&G one day on my break and ever since I literally eat here everyday! The first day I came in the entire staff treated me like family. By the third time everyone knew my name; my likes, my dislikes, and could bring me my coffee and regular meal without even asking how I like it. The owners John and Fran go out of their way to speak to me every time they see me. There have been days where I come in on my break just to talk because I couldn’t afford to eat and they treated me to lunch. There have been several times where I’m swamped at work and Gina or Gabby will surprise me and bring me over a coffee and a smile just to brighten my day! And they aren’t this nice just because I’m a regular customer... I’ve watched Fran drop what she’s doing to chase someone’s baby who ran out the door, Ive seen Gina scramble to make a passing homeless man an entire meal before he got too far down the street. I’ve admired Gabby going above and beyond to make someone smile, and Sherry is one of the friendliest and sweetest people you’ll ever cross paths with. Even Fran’s son and daughter work every now and then and you’d think they were in there everyday with how familiar they are with everyone in the community! This place is truly a staple in the community and you can’t go wrong with eating here! The food is phenomenal, genuine diner delights! But the true gem is the vibe and the amazing people you are going to encounter here!...They even have alcohol (the drinks have...
Read moreMy family and I had an amazing weekend in Chicago, and we’re hoping to end the trip with some breakfast after being turned away from multiple restaurants we finally made it here where we decided to eat right off the bat our hostess was extremely rude and pushy. she even sat. Guess that came in after us before us then, when we were finally seated, our waitress proceeded to wait 30 minutes to even hand out menus silverware, and other items for the table. When she did take her order, she was extremely rude and dismissive she started her sentence with OK. What do you want And didn’t make eye contact with me or my family she seemed to be flustered, but took out her anger on our group in particular, as you could tell that she was talking kindly to those around us. When we got our food, she slammed our plates on to the table and was very dismissive didn’t come around to refill our waters, or speak to us much after our food arrived, which took almost 45 minutes. After we finished our food, we asked for boxes which also took a significant amount of time. Our waitress was absolutely horrendous, and the hostess did nothing to help us. The food was greasy and poorly prepared the eggs in my girlfriends sandwich were super runny, and it was hard to eat. I didn’t finish my plate and my other family member didn’t enjoy their food either. Overall this was a terrible place that was extremely crowded unsanitary and has terrible service. I do not recommend...
Read moreS&G never lets me down. They were open on New Year's Day and were kind and reliable as always. There's this one woman who has been there every time I've gone. She gave me and my friend free mimosas to celebrate my friend's birthday (we went for breakfast) and told us that the line to get seated on New Year's Day was going to move fast and it would be worth it. She's just really on top of her work, and you can tell she enjoys what she does.
Our New Year's Day server was excellent, despite being very, very busy. Our food was incredible, came out perfectly the way we ordered it, and she even suggested we buy a bottle of champagne for the best deal, since three of us wanted mimosas. I always love a server who thinks about the value for the customer, as it would've been easy to just let us order more individual drinks.
I've only been for breakfast, but they have an ARRAY of skillets - seriously, they have a skillet for everyone. I love the food and the service here. They are a great "family diner" vibe for a fair price. My new go-to...
