This shop's poor service almost had me killed. I dropped a bike off for a complete tear-down, paint, & rebuild in early December which they promote on their website as being a 4 - 6 week procedure. During the process they misplaced my bike fork, applied the wrong paint color (which then needed re-paint), and made false promises about when the work would be finished over and over again. During this whole process management was evasive and would not return my calls. I had to go into the shop time and time again to talk to someone. It took over 3 months to finally get my bike back from their shop and without me even putting 20 miles on it after it was in Heritage's hands the steering tube split in two WHILE I WAS RIDING (see photo). I could have seriously been injured! Now I am having another shop install a new fork and headset. So much money and time wasted with these guys who turned a personal project into a nightmare. Needless to say my bike is not what I was hoping for as I trusted Heritage to paint my frame and fork and rebuild my bike but I ended up getting a complete mess. Seriously, go...

September 2021, I ordered a bike from Heritage hoping I’d receive it in time for a Christmas gift. In December, I was told 2-3 weeks, and every 2-3 weeks I’d call in and was told the same thing until 8 months went by. Excuses were the bike fell over, it was painted the wrong color, etc. A couple weeks ago, I called in and was told the frame finally came in but the painted fender and chain guard I ordered were still not available. Additionally, the coaster brake I originally ordered was not available and they would need to order one. After 8 months, I just wanted a bike so I said I’d take delivery with hand brakes and without the painted fender and chain guard. I was told it would be ready by the weekend but that came and passed without a call from the shop. I called back and was told it would be ready by the next weekend and they were “pretty sure” they had all the parts. After feeling like Charlie Brown for 8 months I decided to just ask for a refund. Super bummed, I think they have beautiful bikes, I just...

I’ve been just about a daily customer since Heritage opened its doors in 2011. My son has also been drinking decaf Heritage Coffee since he was 7-years-old, and there is no end to this coffee-drinking in sight!

In 2012, I bought two bikes from Mike for my wife and me. We had 9-years-old twins at that time. Those Heritage Bicycles were the beginning of regular bike riding adventures that today our whole family enjoys.

Then, Mike started outdoor summer movie nights, which have become one of our family’s and the neighborhood’s highlighted traditions. This began in a Chicago alley that somehow feels like home when we watch movies together.

In the fall, Heritage hosted World Series viewing parties that were awesome! It felt like hundreds of people gathered to cheer on the Cubs together.

Mike and Heritage have ignited the old-school neighborhood feel, and we cherish being a part of it! Thanks a lot! We are looking forward to many more great times.

p.s. The coffee is...

This has become my new local haunt after moving to the neighborhood in the last year. The baristas are so friendly, quickly picked up on my order, asked my name, and clearly deeply care about the coffee they make. The coffee is phenomenal, and so is the matcha (and I am not a matcha person!). The food is genuinely fabulous. Everything I’ve tried has blown me away, both for lunch and breakfast. The pastries I’m less hyped about but they’re still pretty good. There’s a cute bike shop and they often check my tires for me. There’s seating on the bike side (quiet) and the cafe side (louder), as well as a gorgeous patio. There isn’t a ton of seating that isn’t communal or at a counter, but it’s really okay. An awesome place to hang with cool people and get some food or coffee. Good rewards program too if you are a regular. Truly a favorite.

One of the highlights of my trip to Chicago. They combine two of my favorite things, bikes and coffee, in a vintage-inspired yet crisp + modern interior setting complete with plants and carefully-arranged products for sale. The balance between aesthetics and function inside the shop is super admirable; it’s one thing to look pretty, it’s another to provide quality service and product in that same setting. But Heritage pulls it off! My latte was incredible and they sell some awesome bike gear. I can’t speak for the bike services, but there were folks working on both sides of the shop. Next time I’m in town I’ll plan on chilling out with a book here. A really great atmosphere.
