My wife and I had a late morning brunch here on June 20, 2005 while camping at nearby John Prince Park Campground. As the name indicates, the restaurant is located at the beach-side entrance to a concrete-built fishing pier that extends about 200 yards out into the Atlantic Ocean. It has an open-air, full-liquor bar at the restaurant's entrance with bar-seating and some high-tops, and about 10 rail-side, sit-down tables with sun umbrellas (holding 4 or 6 seats) located along the south side of the pier. The main building of the restaurant also has a small, inside, air-conditioned dining room that has two larger tables that looked to hold about 10-12 seats each for big groups. Upstairs there is a nice-sized screened-in room/porch that looks to hold about 15 tables with 4 or 6 seats each. This is where we sat (upstairs in the screened porch room) because the bar-side and rail-side tables below were already full when we arrived about 11:15 am. Upstairs was actually not a bad location because we had a better, elevated view of the beach and ocean, and the screens cut down the stiff wind velocity, which was blowing about 15 mph. It also had a roof to block out the harsh rays of the sun instead of an umbrella. Our server was very polite and professional, and our food was absolutely delicious. My wife had The Beach (Citrus) Salad and a Mimosa, and I had the famous California Eggs Benedict and a Bloody Mary. The prices here are a bit high, but the location, the great service, and the delicious and freshly prepared food (all made from scratch on site) made it well worth the expense. We did not have a reservation, but I will definitely make one if we go again in the future because it's a very popular place with the locals, and I imagine it gets fully booked on the weekends and during the snowbird season (Nov - Apr) when the local area's population doubles. Additionally, on the bottom floor of the adjacent Lake Worth Casino Building is Benny's Oceanwalk (about 75 yards north of the pier), which is a newer branch of this 40-year-old restaurant that has a more upscale dining room and bar, and appears to be more popular for late lunch or dinner. We stopped here for a cocktail after dining at Benny's on the Pier just to check it out. The view of the ocean is not as good here, but it's very nice inside and has both inside tables, outside tables on the covered front patio and back porch, and lots of bar seating. We will definitely dine here again when we next visit the Palm Beach area...
Read moreSushi By Bou offers a refined and indulgent experience, especially with their 12-course tasting menu, which pairs well with a bottle of sake for an extra touch of luxury. Here’s a breakdown of the dishes:
The chefs were friendly, and so were the servers!!
Hamachi (Yellowtail): A great start with its delicate, buttery flavor and mild sweetness. It’s a good balance of freshness and richness.
Akami (Lean Bluefin Tuna): A lean cut with a clean, slightly savory taste, this piece offers a wonderful contrast to the richness of other cuts.
Botan Ebi (Spotted Prawn): Sweet, succulent, and delicate, the texture of the prawn really shines, offering a burst of freshness with each bite
Ikura (Salmon Roe): The salmon roe adds a pop of briny flavor, perfect for a bit of contrast and texture within the tasting menu.
Bincho (Albacore): Subtle, smooth, and slightly smoky. This albacore brings a nice balance between lightness and a deeper umami.
Maguro (Chopped Tuna): A delightful combination of the classic and modern, finely chopped for a rich, tuna-packed bite.
Hotate (Scallop): A sweet, tender scallop, lightly seared to enhance its delicate natural flavor.
Gindara (Miso Black Cod): Rich and flaky, with a sweet miso glaze that complements the cod’s richness, adding a little complexity to the meal.
Toro (Fatty Tuna): One of the stars of sushi, the melt-in-your-mouth texture of toro, offers an indulgent and luxurious taste.
Wagyu Ni (Surf n' Turf): A fusion of top-tier wagyu beef paired with seafood for a decadent, savory bite. The beef is tender, and the contrast between the meats is exceptional.
Sake (Salmon): Another standout with its rich texture and mild flavor. The salmon is fresh, adding a lovely note to the overall mix.
Unagi (BBQ Eel): Smoky and slightly sweet, the eel is tender with the perfect balance of savory and umami flavors.
Bonus - Big Mac: A surprising but fun addition to the tasting! It offers a playful twist on fast food with gourmet sushi elements, blending the familiar and the unique in a single dish.
Paired with sake, the meal becomes an even more immersive experience, with the sake enhancing the flavors and providing a smooth contrast to the richness of the fish. Overall, Sushi By Bou delivers a luxurious and memorable sushi experience. The variety of flavors and textures—ranging from delicate seafood to indulgent fatty tuna and miso cod—creates a well-balanced,...
Read moreOkay... my wife and I had not visited this place together since 2004... so it was time for another visit. We made early dinner reservations for the outside dining area.
We arrived 10 minutes early (restaurant entry is on the right) and the very cheerful hostess quickly seated us anyway. Our server showed up soon afterwards and although being quite busy... she was 'fairly' friendly, too.
My wife ordered the Whole Fried Snapper with Cilantro-Lime Rice and Baby BokChoy. The fish tasted fresh, not over cooked and the sides were also tasty.
I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and really enjoyed it. The shrimp were a wee bit tough... but the flavors made me kind of 'not mind'. The dish is topped with jalapenos, bacon and tomatoes and they really set the dish off. Nice! The wee cornbread 'muffins' that come as a side were less than fabulous. They came with a jalapeno on top, which was a good idea... but the cornbread mix itself is a bit 'sour'. No worries though... I just left it sit and enjoyed the rest of my dinner.
I ordered a beer, which was served in a can... so I dumped my ice water over the railing and poured the beer into my water glass. My wife ordered the Mango Daiquiri and it was tasty... but barely any taste of alcohol... a bit of a meager gesture from the bar.
Once we finished up and received the check... I was a bit surprised about the price ($140). What I did not know until we got the itemized bill was they had added on an 18% tip without telling us. This is kind of ridiculous for a party of two. If we get even 'decent' service we are prone to tip generously... usually substantially more than 18%. But if we encounter really poor service... we reserve the right to choose our own level of tipping. So a 'boo' for that.
Of course, the location/atmosphere is a full 5 Stars. And our food warranted a 4 to 4.5 Star rating. The canned beer and the predetermined tip compels me to round down.
One other thing I should mention in hopes that it might help someone else is that the parking 'meters' are a bit confusing. Once I inserted the credit card it said something to the effect of "2 hours $6" and had 'up and down' arrows to increase the time. I rounded up to 3 hours and it turned out to be $18.00!!! So... I still haven't figured out exactly what happened... obviously it is 'operator error'... but just be cautious that you don't make such a generous...
