I've been coming to this place since they opened, a few times in person and I've been doing takeout from them since the pandemic started.
The sushi is the reason I come here. Good quality and the rolls are good sized. They actually put pieces of fish in them and not just small slivers like some other places. Some of my favorites include the alaska, salmon katsu, and rainbow rolls. I also like both of their vegetarian (the veggie combo and futomaki) rolls as well. I love the bento dinner set. 2 rolls of your choice, a california roll, with soup and salad for $15 is a hard to beat deal and it's a very filling meal.
The hibachi here is pretty solid as well, but don't come expecting the whole Japanese steakhouse experience. They don't have the tables set up for that. Very large portions on these meals.
The thai food is okay. In all honesty, I have yet to have thai food in Lakeland that I couldn't make better myself or could hold against my favorite thai restaurant out in Tampa. The spicy curries are a pretty solid medium - not super hot, but packs some heat. Portions aren't quite as big as the hibachi ones but still pretty large.
Other items of note:
The philly cheesesteak egg rolls - probably sacrilegious to both Philadelphia and China, but I loved these when I took my parents here and they ordered them.
The Eddie special - krab stick and cream cheese battered and fried and served with sauce drizzled on top. they serve this to you as a free appetizer if you're dining in (or at least did pre-Covid) and they include it if you order $30 or more in takeout. They've changed the recipe a couple times over the years and while I really miss the first iteration (I liked the lightness of the tempura batter and sauce combination better), it's still pretty good and definitely worth mentioning.
The restaurant itself is decorated very nicely - great place to take a date and have it feel somewhat upscale and nice, but is casual enough you can go in jeans and a t-shirt and get zero stares. The staff have always been great to me. I hope this place stays in Lakeland...
Read moreWaited all summer for this to open, and am not disappointed. The north side was in dire need of Sushi and Thai. Now We have both. We were actually the very first customers on opening day. We ordered the lunch specials, myself the sushi/sashimi combo, and my girlfroend got a chicken hibachi. Bother were amazing. Portions were large. The sushi/sashimi was great, and was glad to see it was all fish and no egg sponge or thin cooked shrimp in the combo.
We were suprised by a complimentary "Eddie special" and it was very good. It's was krab and cream cheese, wrapped in krab and deep fried. Was tasty and unique. Also included was a miso, or clear soup on both my visits
I went back again and ordered the Tuna Tataki, Crab Rangoon, and a Fancy Q roll. All of them were delicious.
The Tataki came out thinly sliced and seared, atop of a bed of crushed ice, with a small light underneath causing the Tuna to glow. The tuna was very good and the ice was a great touch to keep it very chilled. Looked great too.
The Crab Rangoons are definitely the best in town, and I've tried them all. Good flavor, flakey, crispy, soft and just overall good.
The Fancy Q roll was also very good. I don't usually order rolls, but this sounded good and was not disappointed. They have lots of specialty rolls to choose from as well.
I was also given a complimentary Eddie Special on my second visit, as well as a single piece of some special looking thing from the sushi chef, containing spicy tuna wrapped in white tuna.
This place has a very modern interior with oriental themed music playing. Very comfortable with good service unlike some of the other sushi places. I will be back to this place regularly and can't wait to try the Thai Food. Will update the review when I do.
My only complaint is that there is no Tom Kah soup on the menu, which was the first thing I looked for. 6 stars if it were, but maybe Eddie will read this and...
Read moreI have never seemed to get around to trying sushi but today was amazing. I have never been to Fancy Q ever, Originally I heard from a friend about this place. But I wasn't really sure. I ended up going. Once I opened the door and walked in I was astonished. The architecture was spectacular! I was greeted by everyone once I walked in. I was seated immediately. The waitress came she was happy for us to be there she brought us a soup that was in a small red bowl with a spoon that looked like a ladle. The soup was Incredible It had beef broth with little items in it. From there she began to ask us what we wanted to drink, we informed her that we were first time customers she helped us generously. When she brought us our beverage she brought a type of sushi. I had never had sushi, she said it was a big hit item it’s called the eddie special. I took my first bite and the sensational flavors hit me. I was decided that it was time to step up my game I ordered a sushi sampler and it was breathtaking. I proceed to order a chicken and steak a small salad was brought out with it with a ginger dressing . The salad tasted very fresh and so did the dressing the food was brought out in less than 15 minutes. The food was so flavorful and I had to get a box after that. I will for sure...
