i came in earlier today around maybe 2ish in the afternoon and ordered bbq wings and fries. I was helped by Tina and Henesy, they were both very nice and very helpful. The food was amazing as well no complaints there, but there was a doordash lady at the counter yelling at the lady who was bagging my food because she wanted her doordash order before the customers who came in to order. She told the lady bagging that she had more than enough time to have the food ready before she got there and she kept telling the girl to hurry up and give her the doordash order. I feel bad for the girl bagging because she not only had to get mistreated by the rude dasher who was yelling saying the customers in store need to wait because she is a dasher but the bagger also had to deal with the manager yelling at her telling her to shut her mouth when the lady was polietly telling the dasher her food was coming. He was in the kitchen and didnt know what was happening and that lady came in at the same time i did and hounded that poor girl every time she handed someone food and each time that girl was nice and told her it was coming. you could hear the manager constantly yelling at her and she was not rude to anyone in the lobby so he had no right to do so. that man in the kitchen with the black shirt, i assume he is a manager, should really fix how he speaks to employees because that woman(the dasher)was clearly rude and the managers should treat their employees with respect not yell at them if they dont know what is going on. you can tell when someone lets their power go to their head. He should of said something to the dasher not the employee and especially not made a scene when his employee was calmly trying to explain what happened and he told her shutup loud enough that me and my husband heard it in the dining room and the dasher kept saying thats what she deserves. They need to teach that manager how to talk to people because he was very unprofessional and i feel he shouldnt have told her to shutup because she told the dasher her food is coming they were just backed up. besides that the...
Read moreMy husband tried a gyro from Salem's for the first time because he had a coupon and we love gyros. The normal price for a gyro here is around $8.00. Parking is limited so it took a while for me to find a space whilst my husband stood in line inside. I eventually took a space from someone leaving. The front of house staff was stumped at the use of a coupon on a phone. So a cook from the back of house came out to help the woman at the register. The cook touched the register's buttons without gloves then returned to the kitchen. The order took a long time because there was also much back and forth discussion between the staff over my husband's request to 'hold the onions'. Surely he isn't the first customer to not want onions? We were told to print the coupon out next time which wouldn't be a problem for us. However, there will not be a next time. The gyro's sauce was tasty, but to me the meat had a distinct reheated taste. About four hours after consuming the gyro and nothing else my husband felt nauseous which turned into stomach cramps, which turned into diarrhea. This was the mildest food poisoning, however it was definitely the gyro. The inside decor is blah at best. The table was sticky. The staff is confused. And we will never eat there again. A much better place for gyros is Louis Pappa's; it has never gotten us sick, the atmosphere is charming, and it...
Read moreI've patronized Salem's in Lakeland since they first opened across from the current location and probably first visited the chain in Tampa in the late 80's early 90's. The Gyro is one of my favorites and Salem's was always the best and made the way I expected. I used to have to take meat off my sandwich to take a bite they were so packed. Recently the sandwiches are smaller and smaller and today I spent $9.50 on a Gyro with Feta. Just a sandwich and there were about 4 0z. of meat. While service was good 4 oz on a $9 sandwich is ridiculous. Arby's were nearly as good and had more meat at 2 for $5 a few months ago. Salems has gone from a weekly indulgence to a once a year thing when the craving for a good Gyro overrides the small serving sizes and high prices. I can no longer recommend Salem's as the best Gyro in town. EDIT: 6/20/17 The day I posted this Salem's customer support contacted me by email, and the owner gave me a call the following Tuesday and discussed the issue and remediation. I will update again later after I go back. Higher prices aren't too surprising with rising food and labor cost these days. If they get the portion size right I still find Salem's to be a tasty diversion from the usual burger and fries. The Gyro meat is authentic and very tasty, just be prepared to spend a couple more dollars more than...
