Years ago I would frequent Ole Piper with my date every Tuesday. We’d go inside the restaurant and order a variety of food. When we stopped dating it became a reminder of things lost, so I didn’t go there anymore (around 2015). It was the same with Perkins and other restaurants. With the onset of the pandemic I tried the websites and would become frustrated with the selection. The menus were reduced and changes/substitutions weren’t possible. I don’t know why it never occurred to me to try Ole Piper, I live only a few blocks away. UPDATE 10/9/24: Ole Piper has changed their online ordering partner and the menu has become as rigid and ridiculous as all the menus of the competition… only the pandemic is over! I used to order wings and the menu appears to be similar if not the same as it was before, however there used to be pictures of what you’re ordering and you knew what to expect. For example with the wings, they served them with celery sticks. Do they still do this, do I need to proclaim “No Celery” to make sure I’m not throwing away food I don’t want? Here’s a better example: I used to order fried cod. It was billed as Fish N’ Chips (it came with coleslaw and fries). I don’t like the fries, I don’t want a potato at all, I don’t need the extra starch (there’s enough in the breading on the cod). I used to be able to substitute more coleslaw instead of the fries. Not anymore! You are “required” to order the fries or another (more expensive) alternative. I’m required to throw food away! I won’t do this. I’m not even given the opportunity to choose “no side.” They make you order something you don’t want!!
The whole point of ordering online is not having to call by phone. I’m on the Autism Spectrum, I have problems speaking verbally with people, but online I can order, review my order, make corrections if I need to, or just cancel it if I make a mistake, and start over.
The new “spots” partner is too restrictive, I can’t make changes. It isn’t customer friendly.
I’m saddened that I won’t be returning or ordering from Ole Piper again. They have such good food and prepare it well. They’ve had some really good employees over the years.. before I became further disabled and climbing into and out of my car became more of a chore and challenge, I used to go inside and noted how homey the atmosphere was. This is a great place if you can dine inside.
But it’s become static to people like me. Off-putting and distant for someone who lives less than a mile from here. I used to enjoy coming for a curbside pickup; so much more personal than a delivery. I will miss this place...
Read moreMy search for an amazing zza to enjoy in the Rosemount area has finally come to an end! It only took my wife and almost 3 years to visit the Piper, but we're sure glad we did!
My little guy runs over to me the other night saying, "dadda peezza, peezza!" It wasn't going to be ordered and delivered to our house... So, the search was on as which place we wanted to eat at. As my little guy is saying this, a picture of Punch Pizza is on my FB thread and now that's what I want. Unfortunately, a place like Punch or better, doesn't exist in the south metro that I'm aware of.
The thought of a friend of ours telling us we should check the Piper out a couple of months ago and the decision was quickly made to check them out. Friends and neighbors of ours joined us and it was time to hopefully enjoy a very much bragged about place.
The bragging is deserved! This was easily the best zza in Rosemount hands down and definitely the only zza worth eating in the south metro (Rosemount, Hastings, Farmington, A.V., Lakeville and Burnsville). We went with a sausage/pep for the three of us while our friends ordered something similar, but included olives. Their daughter went for the chicken dinner and the chicken looked really good. Loved the flavor of the sauce, the crust was perfect, plenty of cheese, cooked perfectly and the sausage had the perfect zing to it.
The Ole Piper will definitely be our go to place when we don't want to travel to IGH for Old World Pizza or to Baxter to have the best Wood Fire zza,...
Read moreAs a somewhat frequent customer (2-3 times/month) I am usually very pleased with the food and service here. However, last night was the most disappointing service I've had. Or rather lack of service. Came in as a party of 4 at just after 7pm, and the restaurant didn't seem too busy. There were around a half dozen open tables of which the hostess told us we could take our pick. We sat at one, she gave us all menus, told us our server would be right with us and we sat and waited. And waited. The staff milled about around us, checking on other tables, some even making eye contact with us. And still we waited. No one came to take a drink order, or stop to check on us and see if we'd been helped once. I tried to wave down a server, though she seemed not to notice. Maybe I didn't try hard enough to get her attention, though one might think four people talking and laughing with no drinks or food and only menus in front of them for an extended time might indicate we hadn't been helped. We waited a little over 20 minutes before we decided to leave and try somewhere else. The hostess sure was delightful as we left telling us to have a "great night", which we did at a different restaurant.
Update: We returned after a month or so to give it another try - the service was much better. Our waiter Sean took good care of us and was prompt to make an appearance. Food was pretty...
