Update: Beginning January 2025 they’re open 7 days a week. They used to be closed Mondays and Tuesdays. I don’t like that the entrance faces North towards Cedar Avenue and parking is on either the East or West. Handicapped parking is quite a ways away on the East side, a long walk, so I will park closer when I can park in a spot where another customer isn’t able to park too close to my drivers side door. The entrance isn’t Donut Star’s fault, it’s the builder’s. The last tenant of thiz space was a mobile phone (Verizon as I recall) store. The area was built up 20+ years ago. The builder’s probably didn’t think things through back then. I had visited the place several weekends since the initial review to check on how much “busier” it was. I never noticed any difference in customer count. Now that they’re open 7 days, I plan to stop in more often; their donut selection has become better. They make long johns with enough icing on top, you’ll swear they had filling inside (they don’t). I recommend the almond but the maple is excellent too. Original review 5 stars now:
Donut Star is a nice enough place. I had visited the Burnsville location some time ago and wasn’t impressed. I wasn’t aware that the ownership of each location changes, at least according to other reviews I’ve read. Who knows, the other location might be better now. Inside there was a lady sitting near the door (not sure if she was a patron or some other capacity). Two ladies were behind the counter and one customer had just left. I believe my car was the only one near the building after he drove off. The selection was a good stocking for approximately 9:30-10am. They’re only open 8 hours from 6am to 2pm. I’ll have to come back on a Sunday, I can’t imagine the place would be busy enough to be open that day. I seem to recall Mondays and Tuesdays were donut days at the office, but then these donuts are a higher caliber than the usual fare you see in an office.
The prices are on par (I think) with Lunds & Byerly’s donut prices. Certainly higher than a bakery would be, but then the traditional bakery makes more than donuts, and are located in neighborhoods, not shopping centers. I hope this location does good, they’re the first donut shop near me (even closer than the grocery stores), if I can only remember what days they’re closed.
There was one donut I bought that didn’t live up to my standards. It was a specialty made with Nutella. There was a powerful covering of sugar and cinnamon that over-powered the taste of the Nutella. I felt like it was just a way to sell a higher priced product needlessly. The donut would have been just fine without the Nutella. I could only think while eating it “why is Nutella on this?” I also bought a cinnamon donut that was basically the same, only without Nutella, but tasting 10x better for a lower cost. The Apple Fritters taste better than Walmart’s, but they both use the same ingredients (small apple pieces and glaze). I’m not sure what another reviewer was complaining about. Not everyone puts full slices in their Fritters. These are donuts, not produce.
Overall, I’m happy with this place and will return. One star subtracted for the needless use of Nutella (a favorite from childhood, before it went commercial) on an otherwise...
Read moreI have been a long time customer of the Burnsville Donut Star (we’re talking 15 years and 3 different owners) and I was thrilled to hear Donut Star was coming to Lakeville. My daughter has been begging me to go there but the Burnsville location was honestly too far of a hike on a weekend morning. I took her there today on their second day open and she was so excited and happy! The donuts were fantastic as always! The atmosphere is great! They have a kids coloring table and the donuts are easy for the kids to see. We saw at least 10 other families come through in the short time we were there and we everyone seemed to love the donuts. I think the biggest thing they need is probably signs on each side of the building so people know where it is and can see it when they are driving by or into the...
Read moreI have been to The Burnsville location a bunch in the past and decided to try to Lakeville location through Too Good To Go. I ordered my bag and everything was confirmed, I showed up early and sat in the back of the lot until the pickup time. I went to the door which was locked and was told that they had no orders for me and nothing they could do that I had to contact To Good To Go.
So after driving about 25 minutes each way, I burnt up gas and never got a refund for the order.
If you work with a service provider such as Too Good To Go and something goes wrong, it is terrible customer service to tell the customer they need to figure it out with the service provider. The error was between the business and service provider and you left the customer...
