Went and had breakfast for dinner. Being opening day i was greeted by about 7 to 10 people when walking through the door. I loved the aesthetic that the diner is going for, and it carried through everything in the diner. The poles have bears carved into them, the whole place feels like a log cabin. Even the menu looks like an old newspaper, and has fun reverent stories to Lakewood. It is a little hard to find though, you have to turn onto south Tacoma way, and then turn just on the other side of the casino, then drive towards the back of the parking lot. The food was really good. I had the corned beef has, which was really good, I would recommend getting it with the potatoes (which were also really good) and mixing them all together. The biscuit that you see was bigger than my fist, and tasted really good. My companion got the thick sliced french toast, which was also great, and she finished it, I was not able to finish the corned beef hash. They serve there whole menu all day, so you can get breakfast lunch or dinner at any time, and I will be going back to try the other meals.

I’m writing this review because they deserve to know I appreciate it everything they did for me and my guests. I reserved in May for a Saturday, I didn’t know that was not meant to be because those days they’re busy specially since I had reserved for a large party, but somehow the person that reserve my event didn’t know she wasn’t supposed to book me. In June the same day that I’m meant to be there with my party I get a phone call saying I was only able to stay for 30 minutes I did get a bit frustrated, but I decide to get there a few minutes prior to the event time, and I asked to talk to the manager and he was super nice. He explain the situation and also work with me with this situation. The staff was super friendly very welcoming and they made us feel very satisfied with their service. I was glad I was able to get a good experience. I want to thank the staff and the manager for everything.

*don’t microwave the takeout containers!!* Really cozy diner with huge portions and decent food. Our server was so sweet and I loved the cute little black bear theme. I thought the waffles were really good and the sandwiches are delicious, and the eggs and sausage were fine for a chain style breakfast diner. My one gripe was the take out containers, which were kind of flimsy and not well sealed for car travel, and as soon as you microwave them they shrink and melt into a clamshell around your food. I still ate my leftovers but 20 years from now I’ll probably have cancer because of it. C’est la vie. I would normally never call that out but their restaurant placemats specifically bragged about having the highest industry takeout container costs to facilitate taking leftovers home, so either that’s no longer true and the placements need to be updated or they need a new container contract.

This is a Copy of what I wrote to Black Bear Diner Corporate: "Hello, on 04/17/2024, my daughter & I arrived at the Lakewood, WA location at 08:27PM. The host said she couldn’t seat us because they were closing early. I asked why & she said because they were slow & cleaners were coming in. I asked for a manger & Shelly appeared, repeating the same. I asked if she was a manager & she said, "No, but my manager, Stacey, called & said to close early." I told her we drove 15 miles from Gig Harbor & my daughter checked the hours before leaving. She said, “Sorry, but there’s nothing I can do.”

Today, on 04/18/2024, I called Stacey &, conveyed my plight. She parroted what Shelly said, adding, “There was an accident & people couldn’t get here anyway.” I began to tell her we were able to get there and that there were two other cars in the parking lot, but she interrupted me saying, “Those were the cars of people already dining.” I again tried telling her there were folks in those cars & that I spoke with them & they also wanted to dine there. Then, she accused me of being rude for interrupting her. Finally, I asserted that it was her who had interrupted me. She then let me speak & I asked if she’d make it right. She said, “No, I’m not giving you a meal. I’ll give you a dessert.”

Since we discovered Black Bear (circa 2 years ago) we’ve only eaten at Denny’s once or twice, as we really enjoyed Black Bear. Stacey, the [supposed] manager of the Lakewood, WA location is a blight to the food service industry & is in need of a reprimand. If someone of authority is willing to compensate us for our time & worse, embarrassment, I’d be receptive to such a consolation- otherwise, we’ll not patronize any Black Bear diners; furthermore, I’ll be compelled to espouse the debacle- far & wide… Thank you for your time &...

I am writing this review to express my profound disappointment and frustration with my dining experience at this location. My previous visit was also unsatisfactory, and unfortunately, this one only reinforced my negative impression.

The primary issue stemmed from the conduct of our waitress, Vanessa. Rather than providing the welcoming and attentive service expected in a hospitality setting, her demeanor was consistently unfriendly and dismissive. Instead of a warm greeting, she approached our table with an air of annoyance. Taking our order felt like a transaction rather than a pleasant interaction; her abrupt "next" when asking us our food order lacked the basic courtesy and attentiveness we'd expect from a server.

Beyond the initial encounter, her service was significantly lacking. She checked on us minimally, making no effort to offer refills or ensure our continued comfort. Even obtaining to-go containers proved a challenge, culminating in receiving an incorrectly sized lid. This stark contrast to the pleasant and attentive service she provided to the senior citizens at the adjacent table was particularly disheartening. It raised concerns about discriminatory treatment and a lack of consistent professionalism.

The cumulative effect of these issues was a truly unpleasant experience, falling far short of the standards I expect from a restaurant. I have never felt so unwelcome as a paying customer. Given the previous negative experience and today’s encounter, I will unfortunately never come back nor recommend this location!! I sincerely hope someone can address these concerns to improve the overall quality of service provided to your clientele. I believe the entire staff can benefit from a basic customer service...
